Chuck_Owl Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) Some clips even have glimpses of an original interview with the aircraft designer before his death in 1978. DISCLAIMER: This is a unique documentary on the legendary aircraft designer Willy Messerschmitt translated by flight sim community members indiaciki, Blooddawn1942, Karaya and yours truly. The translation is not literal, but we tried to get the subtitles as close to the original meaning as possible. It is not perfect, as we are not translation professionals. Wilhelm Emil "Willy" Messerschmitt was a German aircraft designer and manufacturer. Messerschmitt's single most important design was probably the Messerschmitt Bf 109, designed in 1934 with the collaboration of Walter Rethel. The Bf 109 became the most important fighter in the Luftwaffe as Germany rearmed prior to World War II. To this day, it remains one of the most-produced fighter in history, with some 35,000 built, with only the Russian Ilyushin Il-2 surpassing it at 36,000. Another Messerschmitt aircraft, first called "Bf 109R", purpose-built for record setting, but later redesignated Messerschmitt Me 209, broke the absolute world airspeed record and held the world speed record for propeller-driven aircraft until 1969. His firm also produced the first jet-powered fighter to enter service — the Messerschmitt Me 262, although Messerschmitt himself did not design it. Edited March 1, 2015 by 71st_AH_Chuck 4
Chuck_Owl Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) I found it particularly interesting to see the rivalry between different german aviation companies like Heinkel, Junkers, Focke-Wulf and Messerschmitt. It's a side of industry that has not been explored very much in today's documentaries... Edited March 1, 2015 by 71st_AH_Chuck
HansHansen Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Thanks for giving the english speaking community the opportunity to watch documentaries from the point of view of other countries. BTW in 18:12 "Lettland" should be changed to "Lechfeld"

BTW in 18:12 "Lettland" should be changed to "Lechfeld" Fixed it by adding a comment. Sorry about that. When you re-type every line manually, some mistakes are bound to happen... I've done 2 videos like that (adding translation subtitles) and I'm not sure I'll do more of them. It just takes such an ungodly amount of time!
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) Nice, but one queston: Did you add the german subtitles (I mean the ones avilabel in the settings)? Just curious because they're saying nonsense and look like somebody desperately tried to type down what the words sounded like and call it german Edited March 1, 2015 by Stab/JG26_5tuka
Chuck_Owl Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 These "automated" subtitles are done automatically. They're not from me, I can guarantee you. The subtitles I added are the ones in yellow.
