Is this coming in 4.13 or the Compressed Full Monty... or something else for IL2:1946?

Just itching for some news on BoM. Can't wait to see the MiG-3!

Posted

The thing I never understood about the MiG-3 is why no cannon through the propeller like every other Soviet fighter?

Maybe the Mikulin engine the MiG used, instead of the Klimov the Yaks and LaGGs used, didn't allow for installation of cannon?

I always wondered what the MiG would be like with a vya-23 in the propeller and twin shvaks in the nose. Maybe with some rockets also. If it were me, I would've put the shkas in the wings and the ubs in the nose on the early versions. Less weight and recoil in the wing pods.

Just a thought, could have been that they used what was nearest? I.E. Save time get it out, get to the fancy stuff later, then decided 'It'll do"

You're right.

The Russian wiki says:

"Недостатком МиГ-1 и МиГ-3 была невозможность установки пушки в развале блока цилиндров двигателя, вызванная конструкцией микулинских моторов."

Which means exactly what you said.

Il2 just keeps getting better! Still on my hard drive, now with CUP!

Klimov engines were derivates of Hispanu-Suiza 12Y engines, which were developed on purpose as "moteur-canon" = engine which allows installation of canon calibre gun to be placed inbetween V of engine cylinders and shoot thru propellor hub.In France it was implemented in Morane Sauliner MS406 and Dewoitine D520 fighters (most known fighters)

Mikulin engines were not.Originaly developed from AM-34FRN engine to power bombers.Polikarpow (original designer of I-200=MiG-1 prototype) chose mikulin engine for 2 practical reasons.

1.Klimov engines were allready "booked" by Yakovlev and Lavochkins OKBs

2.Mikulin engine was high altitude performance type and original I-200 designation was that for high altitude fighter.

This is not the BoM under development by 1CGS.

I personally would uninstall CLOD and BOS and BOM before I uninstall 1946, it is the only offline cfs available worth doing. But luckily today there are space available for all

1946 still rules as for the offline experience/enjoyment

Thats true.  Although I became tired of 1946's fairly limited scope in 2007 and began hoping someone with a bit of vision would come along take it to the next level.

I never imagined that every developer after that would loose the art so completely.

I wish we could have another 1946-esque sim.

Use a new engine, make a dozen or so averagely detailed maps and updated flight models from 1946.

Heck, even if we could have a 1946-esque sim with only 5 maps and 10 planes per nation, as long as the community would be given free reign to mod, it would fill up with content at a spectacular rate. I still play 1946 on hyperlobby and talk with plenty of guys who love 1946 and like to mod it, but just want some kind of update.

The audience for another large-scale (theatre/time wise) average/low detail sim is still there, and they are just waiting. I hope they aren't waiting in vain.
