chiliwili69 Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I had my first flight simulator around 1986, it was called "fighter pilot", run in a ZX Spectrum , just to know what it looked like: Since then, I have been always moderate fan of flight simulators, but today I have had a clear milestone in my flight simulations experiences. From now on, there will be "a before" and "an after" in all my thinking about flight simulators. About six year ago I joined the ROF simmers, discovered the TrackIR, I had a good time. One and a half year ago I joined BOS simmers and when I heared that Oculus was going to be supported I invested in proper Hotas, Seat and peddals. Unfortuntately the paths of Oculus and 1C/777 didn´t crossed and I decided to explore the world out of ROF/BOS. I installed DCS free version, mapped the basic controls and tried the free Mustang in a monitor. It run well, so I tried with the Rift DK2. First I have to say that I tested almost every demo from Oculus Share, some of them are quite nice, but none of them flying a plane. The DK2 with DCS is brilliant, awesome, fantastic, nice, delighting, and my poor english doesn´t know more adjectives. In the past I used to fly in real glidders, and the DCS-DK2 feeling is the most similar thing to REAL FLY! For me the DK2 resolution is good enough to forget flat monitors, forget triple monitors, forget TrackIR, forget keyboards, Gauges indications are good to know where the neddle is, and If I want more detail I just put my head closer to the gauge until I see all the details. It is amazing. I have been flying for about an hour until I get out of fuel. I have been testing barrels, looping, low fly, inverted fly, etc. Zero nausea since I truly believed I was inside a plane. This experience is telling one simple thing to me. No more flights in a flat monitor. What it means I will forget ROF/BOS/BOM until they implement a VR device (Ouclus or whatever). My limited free time will go now to DCS. And my next plane Kurfürst. Thank you 1C/777 for all these years of pleasure but I get out of the Plato´s cave. Goodbye and hope to see you again in VR.
Bando Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Nice write up. I do hope the OR consumer version does make it this year. I think the OR, once out on the market, will force flightsim devs into their wake. We'll see..... In the mean time: Have fun
