"Lockheed P-38 Lightning discovered on a beach in Wales. During the storms of the last 4 years, a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, which is assumed to be of the USAAF, emerged from the sand on a beach in Wales where he crash-landed. The aircraft, mostly intact and impressively preserved if compared with other findings, is one of the most significant findings of world war currently. His last flight occurred on September 27, 1942 when the pilot, Ten. Elliot, departed from a base on the North coast of Wales. As standard procedure in the P-38, he took off using reserve fuel tanks but for some reason forgot to activate the main tanks after takeoff. Approximately 55-minute mission, the left engine lost power. Ten. Elliot got confused during the identification of the problem as being a problem in the propellant and then decided to return to the base to check. However, when he was already there is 4 km and 800 feet of altitude, the right engine also stopped. Unable to glide to the runway, he made a curve to the edge of the beach but failed and ended up landing about 1 metre of water. Lieutenant Elliot survived the fall unharmed. A Committee made by three officers concluded that the error had been fuel loss due to lack of attention of the pilot. The war came to an end and the plane was forgotten until their recent discovery by a civilian walking on the beach."
