New update coming---should I save any folders first?

As the title says, should I save my input folder or anything else?

A search brought up a thread about Version 1.004 and Zak said not to or there could be bad consequences due to changes in input folder.

Thanks in advance! Cheers!

I always keep saves of my input folders but they usually warn us about that.

With the new oxygen system commands I would imagine that the controls will need to be reset.

Thanks, M8, and for all your contributions, long time fan in all comments, mods, etc. I admire your intensity in pursuit of what's right and cool.

That;s ok. I have screenies of all Controls screen settings, so re-setting is a minute incovenience compared to what is promised in 1.009.

I'm a firm believer in triple back-ups but that's just business me. My question was whether the update will wipe my personal settings and it appears as it will. ,We'll see. Thanks, M8! Cheers!

I know we had to redo the control settings once (or was it twice before) in BoS, but I dont recall ever having to do it for IL2, CLoD or RoF. Surely in this day and age that is an onerous requirement the can be circumvented?

It happens a lot in RoF - almost every update with RoF seems to reset controls and settings to defaults, and spawns a bunch of posts on the Forums by new players who get caught by surprise and are pissed that they have to redo all their controls settings.

Fortunately, as long as you remember and realize that's how it's going to work, in most cases it's easy to have saved down a copy of your controls files and to re-load them after the update, and that almost always works.  Sometimes, of course (like when they make radical changes like introducing multi-crewed or multi-engined aircraft) the control command structure has changed so much that you have to go back in and redo all the stuff again manually, but that does happen pretty rarely.

Well admitedly I havent used RoF much since BoS early access, but prior to that I played RoF from the day it was released and cannot remember ever having to change setting for it. However, I am getting on in years so maybe???

Save your original, then if you open both versions in Notepad you can copy/paste any relevant controls across.

+1! I got burned badly once by a HDD crash---K's of $ and months to rebuild my accounting files. Of course, the tax people picked that time for an audit. Nightmare!

Triple backup's are a necessary pain. "Better save than sorry"!

Thanks All!

Be sure!

Actually they stated it will be released this upcoming week. They don't release on Friday as that brings them to the weekend, so I would expect to see it early to mid week.

unless they say a complete reinstall, you should always have a complete backup of the entire game...

Save the input folder anyway, and paste it to desktop or something.

Even if they do add extra keybinds, it should not require any kind of remapping on your part. I believe when the La-5s inlet cowls (along with a couple of german specific management binds) were added, there was no wipe of any sort.

you will more than likely have to redo the Inputs again as some things have changed in there, new titles and some settings..

*if you have made some changes in there...

make a copy of your stratup.cfg and your (Graphic) terrain.ini you will be ok..

That's a great idea. I'd probably find that much easier than trawling through files with Notepad.
