kraut1 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Hi,last week I installed IL2:BOS and I testet it. From my point of view it is a great WW2 air combat simulation but at the moment the biggest disadvantage is that there is no real single player career that lasts to the end of the war.On the other hand IL2 1946 + DBW1.71 + DCG ist still interesting for me because of its career mode and the great variety of maps and planes. For campaigns I always use the great Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG) by Paul Lowengrin because with this tool I can combine one campaign after the other. At the moment I am flying the IL2 BOS campaign and add the results to a IL2 1946 campaign in that way:-I fly a mission in IL2:BOS and note the results (number of kills, plane types...)-then I have to add the results to my IL2 1946 career:I designed an IL2 1946 dummy mission with the Mission Builder that contains a primary objective/reconnaisance, a number of enemy planes (rookies, not armed), artillery guns (no aa guns) and some trucks. This dummy mission is named dcgmission.mis (standard DCG mission name) and it is located in my IL2 1946 career folder:E:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\Campaign\DE\DCGFor each mission I have flown in IL2:BOS I will fly in the IL2 1946 career the dcgmission.mis and shoot down the same number of targets that I hit in IL2:BOS. This takes only 1 minute per mission. My statistics (number of mission, air kills, ground kills) will be saved to my IL2 1946 career and IL2 1946 decides my promotions and awards.Another advantage: results of missions that are not accepted by IL2 BOS because the last waypoints were not reached can be recorded. When the Battle of Stalingrad is over I will continue the same career with IL2 1946 (perhaps in Italy or in the Normandie).Best Regards
Juri_JS Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 It's really sad that people have to use such complicated tricks to achive something vaguely resembling a career in BoS.
kraut1 Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Well it took some time to prepare the dummy mission but now it works and it is for me an acceptable interim solution until the BoS career mode is improved. And now I can enjoy flying the BoS career because I know that I can continue my career after the Battle of Stalingrad.
Finkeren Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I for one would get the same kind of immesion from simply writing down my victories, losses and mission results (maybe even do a little after action report?) on a sheet of paper. Then cruble up and tossing out that paper, when my pilot is killed, seriously wounded or captured (defined as not having reached the exit point. I actually tried this for a little while, but it really didn't add much to the campaign for me, because nothing I did outside BoS had any influence on the campaign itself´, and by then I was level 8, which meant that my 'careers' usually lasted 2-3 missions.
avlSteve Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 which meant that my 'careers' usually lasted 2-3 missions. I think most of my careers were about 2/3 of a mission.
Cybermat47 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I think most of my careers were about 2/3 of a mission. XD same for me.
kraut1 Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 I have BoS since two weeks and I am flying with expert settings (only aids: the navigation symbol and pre warmed engine) with the FW190 and up to now I survived 4 Intercept missions / 5 kills/Pe-2,IL2. But I must admit that I did not fight against enemy fighters. I think will try to use the superior speed of the FW190 and to avoid dog fights. My main problems are to control the direction of plane when I take off (some accidents / damaged plane) and it is difficult for me to see the enemy planes when I reach the action Waypoint. The navigation in the winter landscape is difficult too.
