Saitek Rhino X-55 Throttle Issue.

Hi All, SpaceHippy1975 Here,

I was wondering if anybody here would be able to help me with an issue that I am having within several Flight Simulators.

I have just purchased the Saitek X-55 Rhino HOTAS system of which I love using. But I have noticed an issue with the throttle, I am not getting the full range of throttle motion within the simulator that I happen to be using at the time. I have found when I am in Microsoft FSX, I can’t bring the throttle down to 0% power or go up to full throttle (stops at around 90%) When I use helicopter I can’t land as the throttle power will not go down to 0%.

This also occurs in IL2 Forgotten Battles in a similar way but the throttle will not go below 50% power.

I have tried calibrating the throttle using both Simulators built in calibration software as well as the software provided for the X-55. When I push the throttle back & forwards, the icon on the graph moves from one corner to the other with no issues (where you can set curves)

The throttle unit itself is fine, I have the friction knob set to its loosest position & can move the throttles back & forwards with no problem.

The problem only occurs within a simulator.

I have looked all over the internet for an answer to this but have been unable to do so. I have contacted Saitek/Mad-Catz EU tech support but from what I have heard they're not likely going to be much help!

I hope someone can help me!

Kind Regards,

Keith.

I cannot speak for the other games on your list, but in DCS you have to completly wipe the axis assignments in game. The problem is DCS doesn't recognize the X-55 as a throttle, it thinks it is a second joystick. As such, it auto assigns pitch, roll and yaw in addition to throttle and sometimes doubles the assignments in conflicting ways (ie right throttle reversed but not the left). If you messed around with the Saitek software, you may want to go back the default profile as well. I never messed with it much, but it looks to be very powerful and thus easy to mess up.

Hi =LD=King_Hrothgar,

Thanks for your reply, Imanaged to eliminate the whatever Sim I happening to be using thinking that the X55 throttle as another joystick. I find it's best not to calibrate the throttle & leave it in it's original default setting. this comes with the results of having a range of between 15% - 85% throttle response.

If I do calibrate using either calibration tool I end up having the throttle starting halfway up the diagonal line moving up to the top left corner of the graph. If I save this, I end up having the aircraft's throttle starting at around 50% throttle instead of 0%!

I have had a response from Saitek/Mad Catz suggesting I use the built in Windows 7 calibration tool but I've had the same results.

I'll let you guys know If & when I get any joy/results.

Just out of curiosity how do you have it connected? USB 2.0 or 3.0? Directly to the PC or via a powered, or non-powered, hub? Mine is connected via a USB 3.0 powered hub, as many suggested, and I have no issues. Just some food for thought as other people have issues that seem to appear when using USB 2.0 and direct USB connections on their computers.

I thought about that too, my throttle & stick are both plugged into 2 seperate USB 3.0 ports built into my case. These 2 ports connect straight into my motherboard (an ASRock Z77 Extreme6) Should be enough juice being supplied by thr PSU, a OCZ Mod X-Streme Pro 700w.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.......... but I'd already RMA'ed it back to Overclockers UK.

I had already contacted Saitek/Mad Catz EU customer support & tried their suggestions for remedying the issue, they were helpful but ultimately concluded that it was a faulty unit.

Hopefully & fingers crossed the next X55 system will be all okay! (If not, I'll be exchanging it for a Warthog & Pedals!)
