You might be against mod, but you are misleading .

IL 2 would have been dead without mod. Only latest patch made il2 playable . BOS will not live long without usermade content. And people like you with best intentions of course , support its demise

4.12 release...

June 2013.

what have the (uncontrolled)modders done and implemented since June 2013? for Off and online?

===========================

not saying that TD are lazy or dumb or anything. no negative message at all.

my point is that modders move 1946 faster than the official "modding" crew.

Like crowdfunding, a lot more people chip in.

IL 2 would have been dead without mod.

What others are trying to point out above is that the original IL-2 was not unofficially modded during the time it was developer supported. It was hacked and modded after support was dropped. So BoS will not die without modding.

Died significantly for me already after learning that the mods-on mode won't be included.  Not particularly looking forward to this weeks update and not really concerned about the Moscow expansion either.  I was pretty keen prior to that.

What others are trying to point out is ROF is successful, and has a Mods On mode. In fact some  improvements that got put into the core sim came from having this ability.

It works, and works very well.

I hear you, first we get the good news of the FME being release sooner than they had stated just couple weeks ago, and then this reversal of direction from what they had originally planned regarding having a mods on feature like ROF has...

Also from Developer Diary #3

<<< 2) What about mods? Do I understand correctly that it will be about the same level as now in the ROF?

Will you be able to create and add mods (maps, aircraft, and machinery) without developers? If so - whether the game built tools to enable / disable mods and the ability to create servers with mods?

We never hindered creativity, contrary we support any initiative. Technically, such a system is ready, simply create your own objects and put them in the game folder. Top models can become official and will be added to the basic set. Of course we are always keeping a close eye for talented people to maybe invite them to our team of developers.>>>

This is wrong..  Perhaps you are thinking of IL2 CoD? IL2 has been quite playable throughout it's lifespan. As long as users can create missions and skins and other useful utilities BoS will survive without mods. It would just IMO thrive to a greater degree with mods .. This is not a decade ago and it has been done with RoF.. so I see no reason why it could not work here as well given that there will be more simmers in the mix.

This is not quite true either.. I believe the sound mod hack came out just before Oleg left.. or around the same time.. and there never was an official "good bye" that I recall.. I still wonder to this day what role if any the hacking of the sim played in his departure.

I can always remember Oleg and team saying repeatedly  ''no, that cannot be done'' or ''no, that is not possible'' when asked about correct engine sounds, or new functionality within the game,  when all the time it was completely possible to do the things most people wanted implemented... Years later I'm still playing it and it's better than ever :)

Who asked for Mod Support similar to RoF was not a few that asked for this feature and they get the answer with a clear yes. Create own Missions and skins is maybe nice for some time but after that you like to customize your Game more because you see this could be better made or this look nice or I have this kind idea and want to see how it looks ingame.

And what BoS not survive is the ambience.

Someone create a separate thread or modify this one for a poll. Then change the title to Mods On or Off. Then we'll look at the numbers. And perhaps the Dev's will look at the numbers, for the future.

That's exactly the situation I hope never to see because it would mean a chaotic nightmare for the majority of player who don't want confusion when they try to go online. Every server would need you to DL this mod or that mod some of which might not be compatible with each other. That's what I mean by anarchy and disaster. Most players aren't computer programmers who want to spend all their time messing with the game. I can easily see why the Devs would want to have control over this. Having Multiplayer as a game mode means one version of the game. That's it. One version!

Most players are offliners, who don't give a hootin' holler in hell for online, and use mods for a far more immersing experience.

But screw everyone who doesn't play like you right?

It's certain most players spend the majority of their hours in single player since it's more accessible. That doesn't make multiplayer irrelevant. It's amusing that when the whole unlock business was debated the tone was that everyone didn't want to be forced to play single player and they were all 100% multiplayer. Now everyone seems to be 100% single player.

Nobody is saying that MP is irrelevant here - what many are saying is that the addition of a RoF-like Mods On/Mods Off mechanism would not have any detrimental effect on MP.

And your memory about the unlock fiasco is a bit skewed - sure, lots of MP players were upset and complaining about the unlocks, but there were also plenty of other people (like me) who were upset and complaining about the unlocks from an SP player perspective as well.

I think it's unfortunate that some folks seem determined to splinter the community and pit MP players against SP players - there's really no need to do that, especially on issues like this one where the interests of the two groups can happily co-exist.
