taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Hi All. I'm in need of assistance, although I use the F12 key to align my gun sight on a regular basis , I cant find any reference to that key in settings ? [camera controls or pilot head controls] I would like to assign the command to my joystick [Thrustmaster T16000, hat switch] With TrackIR I find I have to keep glancing down at my keyboard which I would not have to do if the command was on the stick!. I find that the need to align the sight during combat is very helpful. I have tried the " Head snap centre command " but that does not look the same as the F12 ? Cheers. JM.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) the key are not the same, you need to change the track ir keys to something other than F12 because those are the default key for BOS alignment view. so I would set up track ir default key to left shft+INS, HOME, Page up. as ins, home, and page up down key are the FOV key for BOS. you activate that with F10. F12 happens to be the default key for I think center snap key. Edited February 19, 2015 by 71st_Mastiff
rigbyDerekb1948 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) On the G940 Joystick I have the "S2" button (or button 3) mapped to both "Camera: Player Cockpit" and "Pilot Head: Zoom In". The "S3" (or button 4) button is mapped to "Pilot Head: Zoom Out". These are all BoS mappings. On the Track-IR control-panel I have also mapped the "Centre" function to button "S3" on the joystick (duplicating the "F12" default TIR centering). Using the two buttons together it is very quick to both centre one's view and also zoom to suit the current situation. Edited February 19, 2015 by rigbyDerekb1948
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) Thanks RD 1948, i was not aware that this could be done via Track-IR. I'm new to Track-IR, so how do i bring up the control panel ? Cheers. Edited February 19, 2015 by taffy2jeffmorgan
rigbyDerekb1948 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Click on the "start" menu-button, then "All Programs", then "TrackIR" , then the Track IR application to bring up the "User Interface" screen. On the bottom left of this screen is a box headed "Advanced Settings". Under "Profiles", click on the "+" sign to create a new profile, and give it a name in the profile box. Just below is a section headed "HotKeys". In the Hotkeys "Action" box select "Center". In the "Key" box you should see "F12" (default centering key). Click on "F12" and a new box will open called"Hotkey Entry" and it will ask you to enter the button/key that you wish to assign to the "Center" function. Just press the key/button you wish to use and it should store it as part of your new profile. You can modify/change any other settings you want to complete your profile. Select the "Exclusive" box, next to your new profile name to make it all "stick". (I hope it all makes sense - I'm no expert at these things but mine is working okay). Best of luck, Rigby.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 Thanks again for that information, I'll shall check it out. Cheers. JM.
unreasonable Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 For the key to centre your TiR you want a key that is easy to find without looking but which you will not press by accident! I use the pinky button on my G940. The other issue I have on this topic is the off centred Revi sight: after some experimenting I found that I prefer to recentre my TiR to the central view, and then just lean slightly to the right to use the gun sight. Takes a bit of practice but feels more natural and looks smoother than calling up another gunsight view; also does not need another button this way.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 -snip- well now that i mentioned it i guess its time for my eye exercises to be able to see 3d for real and become enlightened and hopefully multidimensional Oh, cool. Awesome. Good on you.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Thanks Rigby, I followed the instructions and it now all works a treat. Cheers. JM.
coconut Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 there are so many things i dont understand about optic gunsights without going binocular for example wouldnt the crosshair be wildly unfocused if youre loking far away and with the reticle size i guess your actually seeing the crosshair with one eye shame virtual reality hasnt figured out how 3d works to make such a good 3d you dont notice it as in real life well now that i mentioned it i guess its time for my eye exercises to be able to see 3d for real and become enlightened and hopefully multidimensional Regarding focus, the mirror and glass trick used for the reticle puts it "at infinity", which I suppose means the reticle should be clear when you look far away. As for "which eye looks through the sights", in reality both your eyes would see the same aiming reticle, since it's virtually located at infinity. The only problem would be the device itself, which is close to you. In the game, it does not matter because all avatars are cyclopes, except for those controlled by people using 3d rendering or the occulus rift.
mort Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 As a small extra, Track IR won't let you change its default profile, but you can copy it, change anything, such as 'default centre', then exit and delete the default file in the IR folder ( or move elsewhere) and rename your new copy to just 'default'. I found this useful as I want all my Il2 settings to be my default profile, rather than fiddle with selecting profiles. I use it for Elite for example. You can also just lock the profile after selecting your custom one if you do not want to delete the shipped default. The locked profile will always be used without having to manually switch to it.
