zippyPerrserker Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Since it's not looking so great for any increase in time compression past 2x in 'online' mode, I'm hoping to make a case for at least allowing it in offline mode. The case being, well, why not? If you're in 'Offline' mode, you can't zip through the missions to gain unlocks and xp (which I guess is why it was capped at 2x) right? This way people who play custom missions or campaigns can start the sim in 'Offline' mode and use time acceleration (or not) to their heart's content. Of course I'd rather just be able to use it past 2x in any mode I want to, but I think making a suggestion for offline mode would at least take care of any issues the devs might have with regards to unlocks. What do people think? I feel like it could be another good issue for them to compromise a bit on, make people (well, me at least) a little happier in having some more control over how I'd like to play. 3
Juri_JS Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 +1Moreover when the Mission Builder becomes available having only 2x time acceleration will make testing missions very time-consuming. 4
heinkill Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Not going to happen as long as unlocks are part of the game I'm guessing. I asked the same question a few times, have not had an answer, therefore the answer is... H
Finkeren Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Honestly, the way the campaign is structured, I don't see much of a problem. Even with only 2xtime compression a short mission seldom lasts over 10 minutes and i 'long' mission seldom over half an hour. The flight distances are short and the fights brief.

Ignoring that OP didn't ask about the campaign, see this: Moreover when the Mission Builder becomes available having only 2x time acceleration will make testing missions very time-consuming. But who knows, maybe there'll be a "test" mode that allows full time acceleration.
zippyPerrserker Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 +1 Moreover when the Mission Builder becomes available having only 2x time acceleration will make testing missions very time-consuming. Yikes, good point - hadn't even thought about that. Finkeren, I was thinking mostly about custom single missions or campaigns, where flight times might be longer than in the existing campaign system. By the way I agree that the way the existing campaign is structured the flights are pretty 'short'. I get that you don't see it as much of a problem, and that's cool for you, but it's all relative, know what I mean? Your (and even my) 'short' flight might be something entirely different to another person with different circumstances. I guess my main question is, in playing in Offline mode, why not have the opportunity to use more than 2x time compression if you'd like to? Am I wrong in thinking that in Offline mode, you can't add anything to your XP/unlocks?
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I think what happens is if they go past x2 it breaks the mission recording.
BeastyBaiter Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Maybe, another possibility is they wanted to get rid of potential bug reports from someone selecting 16x acceleration and yet still plodding along at 2x or even 1x because the CPU can't keep up. This is something I noticed in RoF. With my old AMD Athlon II, it might say 16x but was actually running at half speed in a career mission. Even with my I5 4690, exceeding 4x acceleration is rarely achievable. In any case, I agree it should be increased. And as short as the campaign missions are, I still find them tedius and boring.
voncrapenhauser Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 HE111 and Stuka could do with a 16x compression LOL. Those long bomb runs are sooooo slow to cover the distance. Fighters are fine at 2x.
claw Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Strike Fighters has that nifty feature where you "jump to next encounter". Which means that you are projected along your flight path to either the Initial Point or to a point in reach of an enemy flight. It means that you can take off, gather your flight, get your bearings and "jump". I always liked that. 1
Tektolnes Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 2x is designed to stop people from power auto piloting through the unlocks. Therefore there should be no time compression restriction on anything where XP points are not earned. It's not a massive issue right now but once the FMB comes along and user made missions start to arrive this needs to be in place.
zippyPerrserker Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 I think what happens is if they go past x2 it breaks the mission recording. Well if that's true it might make sense as to why it's been restricted across the board. 2x is designed to stop people from power auto piloting through the unlocks. Therefore there should be no time compression restriction on anything where XP points are not earned. It's not a massive issue right now but once the FMB comes along and user made missions start to arrive this needs to be in place. Hopefully this will come to pass, and time compression can be freely used in Offline mode. Of course, across all modes would be great, but I can at least see the point (not that I necessarily agree with it) of restricting it in online mode. In Offline mode, I can't really think on why you'd restrict it (unless of course like Mastiff mentions it actually breaks something in the game).
