Confused about inlet and outlet cowl shutters

I assume cowl shutters are all about cooling an air cooled engine and I am thinking about the La-5 and FW 109-A

I can get the La-5 Outlet Cowl shutters to open and close visibly.  I am not doing anything with the INLET cowl shutters for the La-5 and maybe I should be.

And as far as the WF 190-A I don't know what to use.  What I do see in controls is inlet and outlet cowl shutters for Engine 1.  I suppose that might work for the 190-A.

And just what is the deal with having both an INLET and OUTLET?

The inlet cooler shuters are behind the prop were the air streams in the engine compartment.

The FW 190 A-3 has fixed radiators, only from (late?) A-4's on they had controllable radiators

Well after reading that thread I came up with this:

Shutters/Cowl flaps for La-5 and FW 190 A-3

La-5 Intake shutters open except in power dive, Outtake open 10% to 50%

FW 190 A-3 was fixed, you can't open or close them

Which tells me that I need to assign keys for INTAKE shutters as well as the OUTTAKE shutters for the La-5.

No need to do anything for the FW 190 A-3

Has anyone discovered any downside in the game for getting the La-5 engine too cold while flying about?

I suspect the controls is inlet and outlet cowl shutters for Engine 1 or 2 is more for some bomber.

I usually fly La5. I assigned the same key fot inner and outer shutters, so I do not  mess with two different keys. I usually close them keeping them at 70%  open while flying, and close them before landing. If  you  fly a long time full power you will have a temp warning...open the shutters full for a short while and you will be ok

I fly with the inlets open 100% all the time, unless in a long and steep dive as it will cause your engine to undercool. Also fly with your oil rads fully open the whole time as the ones on the La-5 don't actually produce any drag whilst flying (inlets don't cause any drag either). Finally, the outlet cowls only really need to be opened in order to quickly cool the engine the case of an overheat. If I am in no hurry I also keep them open at 20-30%. Most of the time however they are closed as they create a huge amount of drag (and I mean HUGE!).

I tested in inlet when they were introduced and unless they changed something you do not get any speed boost from closing them. You only got temp increase. So absolutely no reason to close them. You get about 35 bump for outlet and 8 bump for oil if you close them. Again these were tested a few patches back. I don't think anything has been changed.
