Sorry for the more or less useless post... Probably instead of writing this sort of posts I should rather be installing TS and setting it to use at online sessions, or training, or simply flying the Campaign, not much for the unlocks but rather just for the enjoyment it really brings...

But I need to share the great sensation I always get from starting Il2-BoS, going online at some Server, and try my luck in a dogfight, at the same time profiting from the unique experience / sensation of being there it really gives me...

This morning I had a 30' slot available at the home PC, so I could have started PSX and get the real weather for some nasty approach in the 744, but instead I started BoS jumped into the SYN server picked first the Bf109 F4 and flew for 5 minutes until the only Russian side player left... I then decided to change base, picked my preferred Russian fighter - the LagG3 - took off and tried to follow an La5 that took of after me... Eventually arrived to wjhere some action was taking place.

I failed miserably at proividing good support for my mate :-/ who was carrying 2 bombs and, I believe, was shot down in a couple of minutes, but I managed to engage a 109, and it was my first score in this re-install of BoS, and my first online one ever in the LagG3 !!!

It's a unique sensation. Everything really feels different in BoS when it comes not only to the immersion of the weather and scenery, but also the feel of flight, the "feedback" of the control response under various flight regimes, the need to use and feel the burden of the rudder in the 109s at different speeds and power settings, when I deviate from the cruise settings, in a way that I really couldn't find in any other ww2 sim I've used recently ( read DCS abd ClOD ). This is, after all, what made me return - because I was really missing it!

Knowing about BOM yesterday, and the new aircraft to come made me even more happy with my decision, and I look fwd for whatever comes with that 09 patch coming by the end of the month!

A very special recognition to the BoS Team, and the RoF Team too - which this time I really plan to start using seriously!

Agreed! BoS is dripping with that feeling of flight and of really being there that simply hasn't been done before. There's a certain artistry here that takes it beyond physics and into something that really "feels" good. Its a mix of sound, input, flight modelling, to create something a bit more. I keep saying it but BoS is not a perfect product but it has huge potential and it has a very strong base to build from. The Battle for Moscow addition and all of the other stuff planned for this year just has me more excited

RoF and bos has ruined me for any other sim.  I get in Clod and feel silly with my headset and trakir clip;  who am I fooling?  Not myself.  With RoF and BoS it just feels right.  I just don't get it when people sayt hatey can't feel the difference.  It's like when people tell me they don't enjoy reading.  Huh?  What?  Oh well, to each his own!

It's all about customer perception and preference, and is very subjective. There is no firm answer to whether one is better than the other, it is which is better for the particular user.

For me, I will take TF Cliffs over BOS any day of the week, and that is where I spend most of my flight simming time. For me, it offers so much more at this time. I hope someday this new IL-2 franchise will surpass that feeling of enjoyment I get from Cliffs, that remains to be seen. For me, ROF totally spanks BOS for my enjoyment, given a choice I am much more apt to double click that ROF icon than the BOS icon, because it delivers so much more of what I enjoy as a SP, than currently BOS does. And that is saying something as I am much more of a WWII fan than WWI. I can load up ROF and launch PWCG, and spend hours having a blast with ROF.

So yes for me, I do get it when someone likes one over the other. I do understand when someone likes what they have now with BOS better than another flight sim, and vice-versa.

It is all about customer preference. And everyone has their own preferences.

I agree about RoF over BoS but that is probably because I just like WWI avaition better.

It is nice to read posts like this in contrast to some of the more "discontented" ones in the past. BoS for me is so much fun to fly because i do not care about 100% accuracy of flight models or amount of content that has not arrived yet. I love the "feeling" in the air that only BoS can deliver (or that odd trainer iam used to fly in rlty xD ). This immersion ... i can´t touch dcs anymore or x plane because i fell in love with this game .... locking forward for some campaigns to increase the feeling of "beeing there and doing something that matter". Will be a huge leap forward in terms of immersion.

Give me a great SP campaign with a lot of activity going on, and I will be totally back on board.

And I keep trying to feel the joy I had in the past, creating a flight plan, and flying a sophisticated airliner in FSX ( even PSX :-/ )....

I'd recommend giving Veteran66's offline-only (you've got to choose the offline option from the "welcome screen") - KM27 mission. Tt sort of feels a bit IFR (obviously not, since you can see the landmarks you're aiming for,  but... go with it!) in that you're constantly checking the compass, and IAS and altitude, and listening to your navigator telling you if you've drifted off course, or if there are 10 km to go to the next waypoint. The briefing map gives estimated times for each leg, etc, so when the FMB comes out, we could make a night version or a heavy cloud cover version, etc.

And the feeling of triumph I got as the target area slowly materialised in more or less the right place was - for me - like when you glimpse those runway lights in your Heavy of choice through the fog or overcast. Great stuff. Not exactly "combat", but really immersive. A different kind of airmanship.

Great you have some fun times again. I've always appreciated BoS for it's sensation of flight combined with the dynamic weather simulation despite all it's flawss.

Unfortunately my mates all left or don't feel like firing it up to fly with me. It's a great downer to fly alone without his fellow wingman.

Guess it isn't false to wait until next week and the incoming "40 fixes and additions" patch to get into the cold weather of Stalingrad again.

Having been away from BoS for a few weeks strangely gave me, on this return, the sensation of having kept practicing during that period more than I ever did, because truth is, ground and flight handling feel a lot more harmonious and plausible to me ? I j«know I kept reading the forum and the comments from various users on how the trickiest aspects of properly flying this or that aircraft can / should be dealt with, but I was amazed at how much easier everything looked during may last sessions in BoS, the only exception being my poor performance as a fighter pilot :-)

Some times you have to step away from things to actually see them (later) better. The thing I'm continually learning about flight or combat flight is with the proper equipment it's becoming one with your plane and the elements. It's like a fine horse. Understand it and ride it with care and you have the most marvelous experience in the world. Man handle it and I can guarantee it will be a short ride. With regards to flying, I'm still learning this. But it is immensely rewarding and FUN.

I knew you would return ... I had faith in you .... Fly well gentlemen and have fun.

And I keep trying to feel the joy I had in the past, creating a flight plan, and flying a sophisticated airliner in FSX ( even PSX :-/ ).... Instead, I fire il2-BoS and go online at one of the servers, preferably Expert....

RoF will, with time, share a good deal of my simming time too, but honestly I feel that if I could exchange all of my DCS, FSX, and X-Plane add-ons for content to enrich even more BoS, and RoF, I wouldn't think twice.

!!! I would spent all my FSX planes (maybe 20 and 100gb terrain etc addons) as well as all X Plane and DCS addons as well (and i own them all ... -.- ) for more stuff in BoS !! From your lip´s to gods ear! Sitting in the 777 pro , set up 200 nm trip with vatsim aaaaaaaaand abort task ,  *click* bos.exe . Everthing else seems to be wrong or lifeless. Even my Mig 21 in dcs will rust. :P

Glad that you back to game :good:

I bought recently LA5 for BOS and i must say that if we forget about roll rate and maximum dive speeds there plane is not overdone.  It fly like i think it could fly and it really overheat.  If devs would cut roll rate a little and casue it broke little earlier in the dive i think we could get really accurate FM for these plane.

Now im sure that Yak-1 is too fast in BOS.

Other hand i bought also K-4 for DCS and im little dissapointment.  I think DCS got some problem with spin modeling in general. All planes got similar spin charactersitic or rather spin proof charactersitic. There is only some kind of 1/4 flick roll then all planes behave very similar and recovery byself. Also snap roll to the right is not possible in DCS. Also there is little control forces at high speeds which i dont like too.

So still BOS looking more promising.  If only devs could be more accurate with performacne of these planes.
