ShamrockOneFive Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I'm wondering if someone who's done more research on the I-16 can help me sort out the confusion a bit. In IL-2 1946 the I-16 Type 18 and Type 24 were distinguished mostly by the more powerful engine in the Type 24 and the twin ShVAK cannons. But I'm doing some reading and on Wikipedia and elsewhere it appears that this is a bit wrong. The Type 24 has four ShKAS machine guns and the Type 28 is a Type 24 with the twin ShVAK. Is this correct? So really in IL-2 1946 is should be called the Type 28? I'm going to guess then that the Type 24 in BoM will probably/likely/maybe represent both Type 24 and Type 28 with the machine guns as well as with the twin cannons. Should be an interesting fighter although I'm thoroughly interested in just about everything listed there.
csThor Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Yes, 1946 had a "Type 24" that should have been named "Type 28".
Finkeren Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Correct. I'm glad they went with the much more common type 24, and I expect that it will have the correct armament (4xShKAS that spews a total of 120 rounds per second should still be deadly enough) Though I have a feeling, that we'll likely get the Type 28 as well as an unlockable, the same way the Pe-2 S.87 becomes a S.110 when fitted with the rear turret.
Feathered_IV Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 As long as the I-16 is the first aircraft out the door in early access, I won't mind.
Finkeren Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 As long as the I-16 is the first aircraft out the door in early access, I won't mind. My money's on I-16 and Bf 109 F2 first out, closely followed by C.202 and MiG (my precious....)
1CGS BlackSix Posted February 14, 2015 1CGS Posted February 14, 2015 Though I have a feeling, that we'll likely get the Type 28 as well as an unlockable, the same way the Pe-2 S.87 becomes a S.110 when fitted with the rear turret. Perhaps we'll implement this option for I-16 as unlockable modification. 5
Feathered_IV Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Thanks Blacksix. Really looking forward to whats ahead for the series.
Wulf Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I don't doubt the thing will roll faster than the 190; pretty much everything does. I just wonder how much faster. Anyone know? I'm picking twice as fast. 1
Kling Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) I for one hope that they will look at effects! I think the smoke effects are way overdone. Engine smoke should be much longer. Radiator leak smoke ends very abrubtly and looks weird. Fuel leaks look too thick and should be made more transparent. With these small fixes I think the gsme would look a lot better! With that said, Im very excited about the upcoming project!! Edited February 14, 2015 by Kling

Effects IMO are the barometer of a well crafted game; and let's be honest, they haven't ever been an area flight sim's have excelled in. I hope effects and DM upgrades are included in the upcoming fixes.

Unless by upgrades you mean fixes to the dm, then who knows.

Unless by upgrades you mean fixes to the dm, then who knows. That may mean that the system that drives the DM is final... I wouldn't take it to explicitly mean that they aren't ever going to tweak it or modify how something works. It could mean that too but if we're going to read into it we might as well consider all of the possibilities.

Bug fixes and tweaks for the dm may happen, but don't expect additional subsystem or other things to be modeled.
Solmyr Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Perhaps we'll implement this option for I-16 as unlockable modification. Would be great !

312_strycekFido Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Perhaps we'll implement this option for I-16 as unlockable modification. That'd would be probably the best way. And you could also add 1xUB to make it type 29 as my squadmate pointed out. Lots of people would be happy and you could market BoM with 10+2 planes instead of 8+2
Juri_JS Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 That'd would be probably the best way. And you could also add 1xUB to make it type 29 as my squadmate pointed out. Lots of people would be happy and you could market BoM with 10+2 planes instead of 8+2 Adding more sub-types of aircraft instead of additional modifications might indeed be a clever idea from a marketing point of view. For example I never understood why the developers added the 37 mm guns to the Ju-87D3 instead of creating a Ju-87G or why the modified turret of the Pe-2 series 87 wasn't used to add a Pe-2 series 110 to BoS.
