Further increasing player count in MP?

Recommended Posts

Was just wondering if there has been any recent talk on increasing the player count further than the current 49? Is server stability and performance for this still being tested? The map, when full, still feels empty at times.

I agree, even at max player vount it feels a bit empty and I usually see only 20 ppl or so.

Most times MP has zero players. Ok maybe 3 or 4. And that's prime time weekdays US.

What BoS needs is a dedicated North American server a la Syndicate.

Wouldn't that be the New Wings - Wargrounds server?  It has been there for a few weeks now?

Peak european GMT time in the evening gets full servers, at least on syndicate and I reckon that an increase in player count would attract more players to the game anyway as it would most likely increase the fun.

Perhaps the addition of that P-40 will garner more interest across the pond :P

8.30 pm CET Satdy night, (avoiding cleaning up the kitchen!). This is pretty typical. A couple of servers - the ones that have missions with objectives - have decent numbers and in fact it is hard to get a slot, while everywhere else is a ghost town.

Edit: just showed the ones with good ping for me, not the US servers.

I don't think the engine can handle much more than that, and still have acceptable number of targets and objects.

a la Syndicate.

a la Eagles Nest.

As far as multiplayer goes, BoS is a dismal failure so far.

Honestly, two servers in the entire world that have any numbers at all is not a success, by any standard you can name.

I hope the coming release of the mission editor (though it will be a long time before we see but a few people that are competent with it), and the dedicated server, will turn this moribund situation around.

I still worry though because as Han said earlier you will need a second account to run the dedicated server software, so I am assuming that means you have to purchase the game twice...

That was my first impression regarding the account purchase , but it sounds a little outlandish to believe. Maybe it comes with a registration process screen. Edited by roaming_gnome

I wonder if multiplayer will also be removed soon, because it "just isn't that popular".

I suspect that has been the plan all along Feathered.

Well, if we went by numbers strictly, then the car industry would not have any Lambos or Ferrari's, just because everyone prefers a Honda. Hence the career mode wasn't worth it. But QMB is for when you got 5 minutes to spare or want to practice new maneuvers, career mode is like the Lambo you take out on the weekends. I still drive the Honda to work. which one has more miles on it? Which one do I enjoy more?

We are still a few days out from getting the Dedicated Server software and the mission builder - that's limited the group I belong to for even getting our own server online and running missions like we've done with IL-2 for years. We're pretty exited to dip our toes in and find a good setup for us once that happens.

What shows, that you have no experience with the dserver at all. It's just a stupid repetition of rumors, which have been disproved years ago. The CPU of the server is the limit. The engine is responsible insofar as it produces more data as other sims. If parts of your plane disintegrate, everyone sees it flying through the sky. More realism produces more data. That can be tuned of course. The devs promised, they will go for 64 at least.

Members of the dev team are among the best virtual pilots online.. Nonsense to think they drop multiplayer.

I really hope the playercount will be increased soon as well. 75+ would be what i feel ist most desireable.

Should be manageable i think.

Some sort of official word would be nice on that.

Or was there an official word already that i missed?

The missions hosted on the Eagle's Nest that I created had over 400 tanks/AAA and over 12,000 active ground objects across 75% of the playable map space with satisfactory performance on upper-middle tier consumer server hardware.

Not sure what you're basing your thoughts on...though I can take some guesses ;)

oh NO" please dont say that"  this game needs some thing its 2015 , not 1990 .

We need to go forwards not backwards , if this game cant handel 80+  players with ground targets and ground battles in an online war , what chance has it got . IL-46 is still doing campaigns with that number today .

While flying online i have seen nothing of a ground war . its empty . where has the black smoke gone that used to hang over starlingrad . ??

I think I came across that source as well ;) ....and I hope you will do missions again :)

Maybe that's what they shut it down. You stressed the poor game too much. :P

And no, I have no experience with the ded server, I just took a guess based on the empty wasteland in the campaign, where I never seen more than a handful of planes in the same time in the air.

I am happy every topic that interests me is coming up this week.

I am going to save myself anywhere from  80$ to to 100$ dollars

reading everything.

No more jumping the gun anymore like I used too.

Syndicate was running just fine at 64 before they throttled it back.  I agree, time to raise the threshold back to where it was!

Well, they took away the ability to have anything but presets for graphics settings, and no way to confure difficulty settings except through presets, and have a "campaign" system that is nothing of the sort, so I'm not going to hold my breath about any decision they make anymore...

One of the servers got up to 120 slots, might have been DED if I recall correctly. But it never got full. I don't think there were any performance issues up to the 70 odd mark, as Syn_Mike mentioned, but they are now trying to add more AI stuff in the game. There is currently a test server going on testing AI plane formations and their effect on server side performance, perhaps the Devs are keeping the count low in order to make room for these?
