Sputnik77 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Hello, I have bought the game 3 days ago and I really enjoy flying sorties in IL-2 in expert mode. The thing that I miss is the ability to edit the position of mission waypoints ( at lest the entry and exit ones) at the briefing screen. The system that places them is sometimes making very stupid decisions. In the result I have to fly over enemy territory and very often above 2-3 enemy airbases, when I could easily select safer route over friendly territory. Very often the route the system selects for my mission, is not only dangerous but also longer than if I could set it up myself. I would understand it if there were additional objectives like recon on the way to to target, but without it, it just doesn't make sense to risk losing entire flight by setting waypoints over enemy airbases. Or maybe I am missing something? Maybe there is a way to edit them? Thanks,
No601_Swallow Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I don't think you can edit the waypoints at present. Hopefully, over the lifetime of the sim, the campaign mission generator will expand in terms of the variety and sophistication of the missions it offers. There are ways to reduce the pain, though. If you pick the "short" missions, you spawn near the "action point" with the auto-leveller on, so you can 2x your way to the action point without fear - and still go on to make your way home to land if you prefer. If you find yourself frustrated in expert mode, you can always choose "normal", and then turn off the engine helpers and limiters (you have to set a key for this), and turn all the onscreen icons off - with the 'i' key, for an expert-like experience (the physics and flight model are the same in both modes), but with the ability to "cheat" if you want to!
Alkyan Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 If you are playing full mission, checkpoints on the map are useless. You don't have to go to them in order to complete the mission. So you can set you "own checkpoints" and take any roads you find suitable. Wingmen will follow you. The only checkpoint which matter is the Action point. Of course if you have to escort bombers, it's a different story !
