Guest deleted@50488 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I tried to set the joystick actions that are listed as "BF 109 Radiator" open / close, but I do not see the lever move between the various positions ( Auto, Close, Rest and Open ) ? Is there a way to make it move? In my flights yesterday, in EXPERT mode, the lever was always at the "Rest" position ( 6 o´clock ).
Alkyan Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 You have to first set : "automatic radiator control" to off. So one more key to map. Then you can play with the radiator
Saurer Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 The problem you might have is that the animations are inverted. If you open the radiator the controll-leaver in the cockpit moves to the close-position and If you have it in Auto the leaver is in manuall.
Alkyan Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 That's weird. Anyway settings concerning this stuff are very confusing, between automatic stuff, radiators for russians, radiators for 109, prop pitch for russian/prop pitch for german, ..., it's a mess ! I finally managed to work it out last night, but a lot of trials and errors. When you set the radiator to manual, you should have a blue icon on right part of the screen with "manual radiator", check for it, could be a mapping error of this key. Also, I don't think you have the close, open, rest and open position, just auto/manual and then you can adjust from 0 to 100 percent like with the Yack-1.
EAF19_Marsh Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Never managed to set manual radiators on the 109
Alkyan Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I guess it's useful for the slight speed boost. My main interrogation is : is there any point to go manual and set the radiator wide open when you have a cooling liquid leak? Or the automatic system is already doing it?
Willy__ Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I guess it's useful for the slight speed boost. My main interrogation is : is there any point to go manual and set the radiator wide open when you have a cooling liquid leak? Or the automatic system is already doing it? Apart from the speed boost you get when fully closed, manually controlling the radiator has some benefits, but they are for some very exclusive scenarios, like doing a long, shallow and very high speed dive, you may want to close the rads to keep the engine from overcooling. Or you can fully open the radiators and make them work as "airbrakes", not so effective as the airbrakes from the stuka, but they do slow you down if 100% opened. About the cooling liquid leak: I dont think it will make a noticeable difference. The hole on the rad wont change size and it will keep leaking the same amount of cooling. What does help when you have a cooling liquid leak is reduce throttle input, doing it should extend the engine life a little, but will make you a sitting duck to any enemy.
