6./ZG26_Loke Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 In the attached pic from Chucks guide about calculating the wind direction, I'm confused about the numbers in the green circle. Can anyone explain what they refer to?And what if my direction is 180 and wind is coming from 090. Would I then need to set it to the 090 on the left side?Another question.I dropped 2 1800kg from about 1800m, but they did not explode. They were set to direct impact. Is there a minimum altitude from where they can be dropped? BTW, gave up on automatic release. Now trying with manual.

Chuck is simply making clear where the wind is blowing from (260 degrees) and therefore where it is blowing to (80 degrees). If he had said 'wind 260 degrees' some people may have (wrongly) thought that was where the wind was blowing to. 2. Yes, you are correct. Sorry I can't help you with the dud bombs. Good luck with your manual bombing.
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Loke, IIRC Bombs are unarmed in He-111 upon mission start. Check <L-Win + s> for arming bombs. There are other Default Bombing toggles in the settings but don't have that handy right now. Good Luck. Tip

Sokol1 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 IIRC Bombs are unarmed in He-111 upon mission start. Is there a minimum altitude from where they can be dropped? Curious, in other planes is otherwise, and are no indicator if bombs are armed/unarmed... Altitude is not relevant, a SC 1800 dropped by Stuka at 300 meters explode (without need to hit the safety keys first).

It flashes armed in the HUDs in the engine startup and/or when engine running on runway but once you hit "P" it flashes unarmed. For all else they are armed. Only in Pe-2 does the HUD show that the bombs are armed upon "running" engine mission start or full engine start. Basically hitting <LWin+s> to be sure should be included in the pilot check list for takeoff just as trim, flaps etc. I just ran that single He-111 mission put up by Veteran(sp?). On target...drop. Oops!!!! You guessed it. Forgot to arm bombs after take-off. Duh!
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Actually having them unarmed within the He-111 simulates the need to arm them after take-off. Which would be Standard Operating Procedure if I'm not mistaken. External ordinance would probably have arming fuse and/or possibly arming cable to pull the safety pin. Basically so an accidental drop of ordinance due to crash or error didn't blow yourself and those next to you up prior to or during take-off.

I fly this Veteran66 KG27 mission, drop the bombs and they explode - get a report of some tons of supply destroyed - an I not hit the Safet Fuse keys because previous I am "unlock" the last skins for He 111 and in that campaign no arm is need on Hew 111 (at least in my game).* For the other planes is need consider if in these bombs have safety fuses. Taking as example CloD, Luftwaffe planes need arm bombs (is always unarmed), but RAF Blenheim no, the bombs arm itself when dropped, and so need some altitude, is safety drop then on runway. The point is, we can think in this matter as generic system for specific cases - some (real) planes use safety fuses, others no. *I dont use this "technochat" - despite his nice icons is (IMO) the worst visual aid that I see in flight games.
AwesomeSprawvy Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Thank you all for the tips on how to calculate the wind angle. I had my first attempts at bombing last night and the results were...less than stellar. Looking forward to trying again tonight.
