32 bit, DX9.

Thanks - I've installed it now and changed the gamma from the default 1.0000 to .80000 in the startup.cfg.

There's more colour in the sky now and ground detail is sharper.

I wanted to try .60000 (as per some other posts) but the game seems to reset anything lower than .80000

I finally installed this on the new machine. Wow, what a difference ReShader and SFX 2.0 make!

Thanks Murf that will be great help.

I have used SFX with other games where the results have been literally WOW.

However, this time there is only a slight improvement. Nevertheless,  it is better than stock so I'll keep it and tinker with the settings or perhaps try a different preset.

Thinking about it, actually, I need to spend what available time I have to get used to BoS but I like things to be right.

Just wondering whether the notion of changing the gamma settings to .60000 is something which could only be done in earlier versions of BoS but not anymore as there is the in-game 'gamma' slider albeit this only lets you drop the setting to .80000.

As always, any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

It still works. You have to edit the config file though to make it work. Don't knwo why the game has been limited to - +20% gamma.

If you referr to my settings well yes, I tried to keep the changes simple. I pertty much like BoS's graphics but only the fact cockpit interiours appaer very dull and liveless. What I attempted was to improve cockpit colouration without messing too much with exteriour colours which was not really an easy task. Sometimes it's more difficult to keep things simple. ;)

Hi 5tuka,

You guessed right, I am using your preset and so pleased you replied to my post. First, thank you for sharing your preset, like I said earlier, there is a subtle difference for me which does improve the appearance of the game although for others with different monitors etc the comparison may be more dramatic.

I did try changing the gamma value in the startup.cfg to .60000, saved the file and ran the game

I closed the game, re-opened the startup.cfg and checked my edited value but it had changed back to .80000

Well after some trial and error I deleted the framework set up and just installed the sfx 2 and it works ok now

And this link was also useful

Thanks TP_Jacko,

This is a great tutorial - just wish I'd seen it a few nights ago...

I'm like most of us Brits...

"Break your neck to get it home, bust the box open like a caveman, lose half the pieces, try and put it together, fiddle with all the knobs and buttons (oohhh, wonder what that one does) and then, when all else has failed to get it working.... read the friggin' instructions"!

I have Sweet FX installed on three versions of IL-2 1946, the stock version and two mod versions.  It works flawlessly.

I am trying to adjust the Gamma of the game as it's too bright to my taste so after using all the game tweaks available I found the Sweet FX threads and decided to give it a try as it looks like it will do what I am looking for.

However, when installed a copy of my IL-2 1946 Sweet FX (I put the whole Sweet FX folder into the main game folder with all files included) and started the game I did not see the expected dialog telling me that Sweet was working.  I hit Scrool Lock and not only did no text appear saying it was enabled, nothing seemed to change.

For starters here is the beginning of my Global Settings file:

.  /*----------------------.
  | :: Global Settings :: |
  '----------------------*/

#define ReShade_ToggleKey        VK_SCROLL    //Set the key that should toggle the effects On/Off
#define ReShade_DepthToggleKey   VK_MULTIPLY  //Set the key to toggle the depth view On/Off

#define ReShade_Start_Enabled     0   //[0 or 1] Start with the effects enabled or disabled?

#define ReShade_Screenshot_Format 1   //[1 or 2] Sets the screenshot format (1 = bmp, 2 = png) You can take screenshots by pressing PrintScreen

#define ReShade_ShowToggleMessage 1   //[0 or 1] When enabled a message will show when the effects are toggled.

#define SweetFX_Greeting          1   //[0 or 1] Show the SweetFX greeting text on startup.

#pragma reshade_screenshot_location "C:\IL-2 Clean\ScreenShots"

// -- Statistics --
#define ReShade_ShowStatistics    0   //[0 or 1] Controls the display of the statistics (fps and timecounters). 0 = off, 1 = on

#define ReShade_ShowClock         0   //[0 or 1] Show a clock
#define ReShade_ShowFPS           0   //[0 or 1] Show the FPS

It appears that I should see the "Welcome" text and the "Enabled"/"Disabled" text.

Any ideas where I went wrong?  If you want more from my Sweet FX file just say what you want to see or just make suggestions as to what I should change.

Thanks in advance.

I decided that instead of just copying files (which worked in IL-2 1946) I would re-download Sweet FX 2.0 and install a fresh version.

I first tried the Auto Installer but it said it could not Autodetect the game even though I pointed it right at the IL-2.exe in IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad > bin > game.   I started the game but no 'welcoming' message appeared and pressing Scroll Lock did not show the 'Enabled'/'Disabled' message and there was no change in the game.

So I manually placed the files in that folder and still no joy.

At this point I think I've read every post on Sweet FX in the BoS Forums and watched every tutorial on installing Sweet FX  into games on YouTube and still cannot figure it out. :angry:

I help people install game content and mods over at Mission 4 Today and have had no problems doing so in that game.  I look for and follow word for word the install instructions but this time.... :wacko:....

I feel like ..."What a Maroon" (quote B. Bunny).  I'm certain I missed something very obvious, but what? :unsure:

Once everyone gets done ROTFLTAO over whatever simple step I overlooked and has some sage advice other than RTFM, I am more than open to it.

Ha!  Nice!

I'd just be happy with a base JSGME install to start with.  :-)

When fresh install it, you have to manually click on "directX 10/11"

Can't detect the game just mean that it can't detect the directX version.

But aside from this, the auto installer works fine.

Also if you are missing the greeting message when launching the game :

#define ReShade_Start_Enabled     1

I haven't tried the latest 3.0 version of reshade, but the 2.0 is working fine.

I could not get Sweetfx or any of them working with IL2 (tried well over 30 solutions and fixes)

Never had an issue with other games i used it and other postfx shaders on.

So now i just run this in the config file (means i cannot change ingame graphics or options without resetting it)
[KEY = graphics]
      bloom_enable = 0
      gamma = 0.70000

Thank you Gruber.  I have Reshade 2.0.3 with Sweet FX 2.0.

Following your instructions about selecting the Direct X version was what I was missing except....

I ran the Reshade Setup.exe and when selecting the game chose the 'IL-2.exe' in IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad > bin > game.

I got the message Auto-detection Failed.  Please select.  Then I selected Direct3D 10/11

The next message was Unable to copy file "ReShade64.dll".

At that point the installer would go no further.

In another thread I found this info:

The following files go into the 2 BOS-Folders:

BOS/bin/game/
d3d9.dll
dxgi.dll
dxgi.fx
injector.ini

BOS/data/
SweetFX-Folder
d3d9.fx
shader.fx
SweetFX readme.txt
SweetFX_preset.txt
SweetFX_settings.txt

Turn off AA in game.

However I cannot find those files in my Reshade 2.0.3 with Sweet FX 2.0.

Is this possibly for an earlier version of Sweet FX?

Any advice for manually installing?  Do Sweet FX files go into different folders?  If so what goes where?

In IL-2 1946 you just placed everything in the root folder.

Thanks in advance.

Never had this problem before.

Could you check that your installation folder containing the reshadesetup.exe also contain that famous reshade64.dll ?

For the manual installation, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

But as far as I know, everything goes into the bin/game/ folder. I don't see any sweetfx related files in the data folder.

In case you have something missing (or just want to give it a try),

Here's a link to the zip file I used to install sweetFX on my computer after the DX11 update :

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20010591/SweetFX%20-%201.zip

A few squadmates used that to install it on their computer and none reported problems.

Gruber,

Well yes, the ReShade64.dll  was in my Sweet FX folder.

So, I d/l'ed your Sweet FX Folder and put it on my desktop.

I followed the exact same procedure as described above..

After the Installer failed to Auto-detect I chose Direct3D 10/11 and PRESTO!  With hardly a blink I got a Success! message in the Installer dialog box.

I started the game and there was the text indicating that Sweert FX was being enabled and to use Scroll Lock to Enable/Disable just as in my IL-2 1946 installs!

At first I saw no difference but after disabling Anti-Aliasing in the Setting Menu I did see a difference.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

I will want to do some tweaking to get the effect I like best although yours is an improvement, no offense meant by any means.

I don't know WTF was wrong with my Sweet FX because inside the folder they look identical.

I am very grateful to you sir.  If there is ever any way I can be of any assistance to you do not hesitate to contact me!

:salute:
