virgil_182 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I'll open with a thank you. This is an amazing simulator and game both. I've flown them all and never before have I been as frequently amazed, and immersed, than I am regularly in IL2 BOS. I am a Full Realism, Single Player flyer. Not totally hard core, I actually like the relatively simpler engine management features in BOS, (I prefer "realistic feeling immersion" rather than rivet counting hyper realism,) but I expect the big picture experience to be as close as I can get it to what real pilots must have experienced in the war. That said, I have a minor gripe. The inability to customize the more gamey HUD options is a little off putting. I fly with zero HUD elements, and in fact, one of the challenges I enjoy most is navigation. Unfortunately I have to use third party map tools outside of the game because virtually all the in game maps have some sort of magic 21st century GPS function built in. ("My Plane" button in the mission overview screen I'm looking at you ! :oP) Additionally, even if I remove my hotkeys for in game maps and navigate the old fashioned way, it's still pretty much impossible to get too lost, or attack the wrong target, or mistakenly commit friendly fire because it quickly becomes apparent that one should not do anything until the huge, bright yellow, text popup comes up, telling you when you are at the action point !! Please, devs, allow us to turn this stuff off, and give us an in game map that is nothing more than a map. Please. Or, barring timely dev intervention, have any modders experimented with a way to mod out those crazy hand holding text popups ? I've explored around a little in the game folders but it appears the very large majority of game files are locked down in propietary archives. Thanks again for a wonderful game. I think it has a bright future, especially considering how good, and solid, it is out of the box. Which is a seemingly rare treat in todays gaming market.
Sokol1 Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Please, devs, allow us to turn this stuff off, and give us an in game map that is nothing more than a map. Have faint. Meanwhile add the key (O) - full screen map - for turn on/off "instrument panel" too. In this way, every time you hit O the full screen map is show, but instrument panel and the associated "GPS" are turned off, so you see only the map. Hit (O) again turn off the map, and turn on the overlay compass/waypoint indicator case you use this, if not hit (I) to turn off, or (H) to turn off all HUD. Other thing I do do was remap (H ) for (U), so the adjacent keys U, I, O control this stuff. And, add too (P) to control HUD, so at start of mission when hit (P) to unpause the game you are turning off the HUD. In this clumsy way you have "clear sky" on game.
SharpeXB Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 "H" turns off everything on your screen. "I" turns off the my plane icon and your HUD in the cockpit.
virgil_182 Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Thanks for the tips guys. As it happens, I was already aware of that stuff. I am flying the campaign in expert mode, actually, so none of the icons are the issue. It's the fact that the "My Plane" button in the mission screen is essentially a GPS as it centers the map on the plane and then tracks along with it, the only thing it doesn't have in expert mode is an icon. Also, as far as I am aware, no matter what one's difficulty level is set at, the yellow "You have reached the action point..." etc.. etc... messages display, which makes getting lost or mistargetting impossible because you know exactly when you are near the target. It's these things I'd like to disable, not just the icons. I'm still having a wonderful time in IL2 though. I really enjoy this game, even with a few minor things I'd like to have the power to change.

Anyway post his suggestion there: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/767-thread-gather-your-suggestions/ Edited January 31, 2015 by Sokol1
Sokol1 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Also, as far as I am aware, no matter what one's difficulty level is set at, the yellow "You have reached the action point..." etc.. etc... Give a look to confirm. Not if you have "HUD" turned OFF.
virgil_182 Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Sokol1, thanks for your help. I've checked my settings, and turned off everything I can find concerning the HUD. InGame messages set to OFF Instrument Panel set to HIDDEN Mini Map Size set to HIDDEN I have the HUD transparency slider set to 70% so I can see the radio traffic messages. I can't seem to find any other settings to turn off. But why you press that button? Ha. I don't. It's not hard to resist the temptation. Actually, I've been playing quite a bit today and I am starting not to mind the yellow text messages about waypoints. It's easy enough to roleplay that my wingmen have pretty intimate local knowledge of the terrain and are therefore performing navigation tasks and announcing them. In fact, playing with realistic navigation I find those messages actually help keep me from wandering all over the map. I wonder if friendly fire a big problem in the Battle for Stalingrad ? I ask because before I realized the text popups would tell me when I was near the target I misidentified an airfield and fired on friendly ground personnel. It just got me thinking. Perhaps a little extra realism that might add some more fun. Like I said though, I'm learning to like the messages, and use them in context.

JG5_Schuck Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I have to say, This is the one thing about this game that really yanks my string! Please please please allow us to disable those horrible Technical tips for multi and single player. In multi player people are using them to fly by, ie cheating!! Lets have the ability to turn BoS from a combat flight game into a combat flight sim, Thankyou.
