CFM coming for IL2 1946...

Just bumping CFM up... I'm more excited about this release than anything else at the moment!

Posted

Still working on it. I also believe it will be compatible with the 4.13 update when it goes live :)

OK, thx, looking forward to it then.

Now I fire HSFX 7.2 from time to time.

IL2 is the biggest entertainment bang for the buck I have ever had. Ever.

So ... in a nutshell what is CFM and why should I be interested?

CFM is the Compressed Full Monty .. which is the Compressed version of The Full Monty.

The difference is that CFM has more stuff.. and the SFS files are compressed and much easier to work with, load faster etc etc.. Think of it like back in the day when mods first came out... before the HSFX boys over at 242 ... back when there was no standard and you had to install everything by hand and your mod install could get so bloated that each time it loaded up it could take as long as like... 90 seconds... Then Charlie Chaplin & crew at 242 released HSFX which had the mod files compressed and it changed everything. HSFX 7 is a direct descendant of that and if I am not mistaken originally HSFX was just used by the 242 guys...

Lol, you beat me to it BC... I'm currently using HSFX.

Looks like I'll be making yet another copy of IL2 on my HD... I really can't wait for this to arrive :)

Does anybody know what the differences will be compared to HSFX 7?

I have HSFX 7.2 installed and also a steam version which is now 4.12.2m.

I also have a virgin copy of 1946 on DVD which I have bought years ago.

I hope I will be able to upgrade that steam 4.12.2m version to CFM...

The differences between the two:

CFM is optimized for offline play and HSFX  for online.

I have never used HSFX and am not familiar with its content, there may be some differences.

CFM was slated for release last weekend but Monty decided it was not ready and said this today on the SAS forum:

" This included the prototype CFM, which died on the operating table last week, and will include the actual successor; which is bigger, better, hairier and more badass than anything ever, thanks largely to Wingflyr and all the other great 3D artists like him.  grin.gif "

The quote above is from a topic on new stock tank and vehicle upgrades wherein some new FMB content is showcased.

I believe the rollout was delayed because the guys involved ( http://www.hangar19.net/ ) are further optimizing it.

( Hangar 19 is TFM centric now but this is the home of the CFM crew.)

A compressed Full Monty? Well if that doesn't sound good I don't know what does.

Installing TFM is always such an utter chore that I just absolutely will have to try this.

Not so much a 1946 addict but this sounds interesting. :)

This. I highly doubt that I'll ever have another piece of software that will even come close. I'm happy to have been around for the glory days of IL-2.

It gets better, I posted this on SimHQ last night.

The Saga continues....

harpia, et all

Monty is working in an enhanced CFM. So as far as what the original plan was last week, no it will not be that CFM, it will be something much better. He is actively working with his team as we speak, and I continue to support this project, albeit in a very small role. So no: CFM is NOT cancelled... it is just that the original plan of making CFM an easier-to-install TFM with some additional content, has grown to something much better, and much more stable. Patience and soon Monty will make the official statement of what the features are for this new pack. And believe me it will blow your mind. But wait, I already said too much. (Why am I posting here? Because Monty asked me to do a little Public Relations to assure the masses the work is really ongoing, and it is. Let us wait patiently and as he allows me to release additional info, I will.)

A key sentence:

(me) I hope you all are not running out of patience with me, I have been cheerleading this for what seems like much longer than 1 month as being almost here....sorry, I guess it will be here when it is.

My suggestion? Set up your sticks then get all your skins etc in order.. missions.. all that.

Then copy that install twice. Name one copy HSFX ... name the other SAS.

Then... on one copy .. install HSFX 7.03. On the other copy install the CFM.

Keep that stock copy separate as a back up. If you have the HD space copy both of the other installs as backups as well.. When TD releases 4.13 patch your stock 4.12.2 install with it and save it. Upgrade HSFX and SAS accordingly.

Oh yes indeed gents it's coming and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!

I have three versions of IL2 on my HD.

I have a stock IL2 version 4.12.2... a HSFX 7.03 version, plus a 4.12.2 version named CFM, just waiting for the release. :)

Me too. Actually it's 2 working versions and 3 back ups... HSFX & SAS on a SSD .. with backups for both and a stock backup. The backups are on a different 2TB drive.

My installs are on a SSD as well, good idea, I have plenty of hard drive space I can copy backups too.

Very interesting! Seems to have a lot of stuff, perhaps, more than HSFX.
BTW,this mod must be installed over a clean IL2 4.12,can't be installed over HSFX,right?

For me HSFX is still the go to mod when I want to fly online.. It is simpler and more streamlined..

Just to let you know

HSFX is made for SEOW purposes, but it was adopted from others too.

Yes, was a member in the SAS team while it was developed, I can recommend this with all my hart. I read it was a problem with the torrent version of it. So I am going to wait until that is fixed. Take too long time to dl

Is v4.13 out now. I haven't seen any news? I would look at 1c forums but my work PC wont let me visit the address.

Slight tangent, what should I install if I want only one copy on my HD and pretty much only play online? I have a steam account but havent touched it in three years. Is there still a Hyperlobby?

Posted

I would make a backup or 2 of 4.12.2 then instal HSFX 7. I think Hyperlobby is still going but I just fly with my squad.

Posted

HyperLobby is still around, and my squad still uses it.  We use HSFX 7 as a squad standard.

If you only want one copy I would have to say go with HSFX.. The install is almost flawless and it has a lot of content. For me two installs is the way to go. Not counting back ups.

Just HSFX or do I have to install 4.08-4.12.2 first? Does HSFX include all those other patches? That used to be a huge PITA. Most of the reason I didn't install it on the last computer or this one.
