I just purchased IL2 1946, and it at first wouldnt open at all... It would just have the blue cirle spin for about 2-5 seconds and then it would dissapear, and nothing would happen. I uninstalled and reinstalled (Btw, this is the steam version on a windows 7) and I just found a website to show me how to put the game into the compatibility mode for Windows 7. I went to go open IL2 1946, and it loaded, then a black screen came up. It flashed a few times, then it just went away and my steam library was open.... Does anyone know what happened? Please tell me if you can, and replies are appreciated!! Thanks!! If you have a solution or an idea for one, please let me know!!

Is it in your programs folder? If it is that could be a part of the problem. In w7 it needs to run from any folder other than C:programs. Your install could have been corrupted too.

IIRC Steam defaults to the Program Files (x86) folder. Moving the Install out of that folder should allow the patches to work properly.

Edit: Thanks to the Internet Archive I found what should be the Steam default directories.

Where is the default steam install directory? (Article #616 Page 1)

On 32 bit Windows systems:
C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\Il-2

On 64 bit Windows systems
C:\program files (x86)\steamapps\common\Il-2
