Sometimes AI do spontaneous attacks - no orders need - but depends on target type.

I see ( Pe-2) attack truck convoys, trains. But they dont attack artillery positions, supply dump...

You didn't mention whether you are flying in Normal or Expert Mode within the campaign.

I've found that in Normal mode for the He-111 your squaddies "generally" will drop when you do provided you follow the IP waypoint and arrive at the briefed altitude and bearing for the run making frequent use of the LAlt-3 "Rejoin and Follow the Mission" command so they are formed up as close to you as possible. They still might not drop either but you gave it your best shot.

Should you find yourself off-bearing and altitude per brief as I invariably do you could try the LAlt-2 "Attack Closest Ground" or LAlt-8 "Patrol for Ground" Commands.

Or just hit Auto-pilot and do all the calculations within the Bombsight to familiarize yourself then when nearing the target watch the AI routine via the Bombsight. Squaddies will drop on you then. No problem. Mission Complete. Retake control to prevent the drop of altitude on the egress. Again LAlt-3 often so everybody's reformed. Perhaps Auto-Pilot and man a gunner station. Then by all means return to base and land.

For Expert Mode. Use the LAlt-3 Command as mentioned above but you make sure you hit the target for the Mission Complete.

All I have. Perhaps someone else has had better results.

Good Luck.
