Guest deleted@30725 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I guess I don't really need to make this thread. It's not really going to pop and zing. I've got to smash it out the park as I'm in a hurry. I'm not looking for kudos or anything and it's not about me. It's also not about the flaws, the boring campaign or the annoying unlock system (don't shoot the messenger) I just could not contain the grin and had to share it a little since it's nice to have nice posts. So much bad stuff IRL we need to smile. But today I can say. I was in virtual flying utopia. Real starlingrad may have been hell on earth in ww2, but imagined here it's a great game setting. And why was I having so much fun? Simply because I Just picked up a better joystick and what a difference it made to the game! IL2 BOS had horrible rubber banding with my old stick, the feeling like the nose was connected to an invisible point and it seemed to want to go back to that point all of the time. With my new stick it's pretty much gone. It felt like a different game. BOS had been on my delete and never play again list for a while. Look, but don't touch. The new stick was in part for DCS, but mostly to see if BOS would feel nicer. Yup. It does! I took it off the airfield like I would in DCS and binned it. DCS controls. Whoops. I blame the snow. It had to be the snow! But the second time was fine and I had a great time dogfighting and then doing some map of the earth flying. My new stick made the plane feel heavier and more real till I sawed the top off one tree destroying the prop. Lets put it all on black. Wheels down. Should be easy. I only crashed my DCS 109 3 times with the new stick and I've only had it an hour or so. So I followed my DCS landing tactic and almost got it down perfectly till it slid and I fumbled for my left wheel break key from DCS. Not there. My virtual pilot lives to suck another day! It's 'funny' really. I've been so nerding out playing DCS and had hated the rubber banding while trying to get on target with my old stick in BOS, my new stick the plane goes where I want and while I love the prop study sim side of DCS I have to admit it was fun just to jump into IL2 BOS with the engine running on the runway, fly up and tangle with other planes. The fm and handling is still enough of a challenge and I can practically fly both 109s the same way in dcs and BOS which is great. Plus there is a mix of other planes outside of the 109 in both games. I love the 190 in DCS, but I also love the two Russian (fighter) planes in BOS. I look at the screenshot I posted, remember the fun I had that led me to that point and I smile and even with my bad stick I think of the many dogfights, landing on the frozen Volga, flying over the map as stuff explodes and going for that cheeky train kill only to have aa strafe you, to hear the hits and just hope your come out of it one piece and to admire the virtual cockpits and the map you are placed in. My BOS play session felt like the first time I played and how excited I was in the beta. Coming back to it now. There is a spark there. The team did the core game right. They just put a load of manure over the top hiding it. BFBunny (aka. You know I'm not going to say that)
Finkeren Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Encouraging post, indeed. For a while I thought I was either completely talentless or insane because I simply don't recognise the 'rubber banding issue' that some people talk about.
Stig Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I may have missed it, but what was your old stick and what is the new one? Just curious.
unreasonable Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I have similar feelings, also never having experience "rubber-banding" with my Logitech G940. If you have yaw control issues, a tiny deadzone and a 60% response curve makes them go away. (If you have pedals that is - not sure I could cope with BoS with a twisty stick). Still in a holding pattern with BoS while flying more of RoF: nice recent FM revisions updates proving that the team do (eventually) act on community requests for changes. I still hold out hope for BoS....but it may take a while.
Beazil Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Speedlink makes the "black widow". It is not a Saitek product.
Guest deleted@30725 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I may have missed it, but what was your old stick and what is the new one? Just curious. Old was a speedlink black widow. New one is thrustmaster t flight hotas x
GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 As good as it is, the small maps and typical shoot-em-up servers are getting old fast.
Porkman Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 What sensitivities are you using now with the HOTAS x? Any noise reduction? I have been using same joystick/throttle and still get some minor rubberbanding while in flight.
wtornado Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 As good as it is, the small maps and typical shoot-em-up servers are getting old fast. I have been saying that since I have been flying Cliffs of Dover and no half decent FMB. It freaks me out to see more threads and pilots talking more about a new mod for a 12 year old game engine that evolved into IL-2 1946 and that new Compressed Full Monty mod coming and to say that the 12 year old game will be patched to 4.13 Sigh FMB FMB FMB FMB FMB FMB FMB FMB FMB FMB FMB COOP COOP COOP COOP COOP COOP COOP COOP COOP USER GENERATED USER GENERATED USER GENERATED Ya think they got the hint? 439th_Wtornado 1
GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 It is surprising how little value and effort they give the COOP option.. than again the only way a COOP works is to have a HyperLobby to hang out in to set up COOPs.. Well, not the only way, but the best way.. Posting a COOP like one posts a SEVER now would be of little use, unless there was some sort of 3rd party software for people to come together to in preparation of a COOP.. I know STEAM has some sort of rooms to hang out in, but, I have not put much effort into checking them out.. HyperLobby is a big part of what made the original IL2 sooo gooood IMHO
D_Konig Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Ahhhhh hyper lobby... Man those were good times.

Seriously. It looks great. But it is not fun at all. The SP experience is stupid, excruciating and they know it, as their solution to get the unlocks is to "put it on autopilot." It is beyond me why anyone would do such a thing, when there are a lot of people, like me, who wanted this to be fun. Instead, I'm stoked for CFM.
wtornado Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 A young lad goes into Steam sees ARMA 3 and watches the trailers,he looks at the Youtube ingame footage to make sure it was not too good to be true and pumps himself up get out his credit card and reenter Steam and buy ARMA 3. He has no idea what awaits him. 12 servers tonight with 20 players? Could he be so lucky? He opens up his Multiplayer and clicks on the servers. He waits.......1000 servers he goes to the toilet and comes back.. 2000 servers....makes himself a snack and comes back... 3000 servers......He makes himself a coffee 4000 servers 5000.....5500...5786... he rubs his eyes and looks again. His face lights up and pure bliss overcomes the gamer it is like Christmas again. But what to play??? RPG servers Co-oP servers Sandbox servers CTI servers So many choices he has to go pee with excitement. Well he has never ran a server before so he choses a Co-oP server with a predetermined Co-oP mission already in the game itself! So easy..... A noob in heaven. He liked the Co-oP mission he played for the first time but he wanted more tanks in that beautiful mission .If it only had more tanks it would be perfect.......... He read in the Steam lobby he could add more tanks with an option called an ''Editor'' and so a new story and gaming experience unfolds for a happy gamer with hours of entertaining gaming ahead.
KoN_ Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I get rubber banding and i have the warthogs what are your settings. Just the other night i was in a dogfight in a left hand turn i applled left rudder and went completely unside down and rose to the sky , wierd . !!! Hypper lobby is still going , they should of put that into this game . Also on BOS servers palyers are hanging around airfields so thy can vulch instead of doing the missions i seen that last night ?? , i escorted 3 il-2 to attack enemy tanks with another LA-5 not one enemy fighter showed up so i disconnected . Its just not the BOS servers its all so the players it has attracted . Edited January 28, 2015 by II./JG77_Con
Willy__ Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I get rubber banding and i have the warthogs what are your settings. I dont think this "rubber banding" is related to the joystick, but to the sensitivity and deadzones and other curves you can set to your axis ingame. On a side note, the Warthog doesnt have twist. About the vulching... sorry to say but its a problem with the players and not the game and maybe... MAYBE somewhat related to the type of missions that the servers run. Usually I fly in Syndicate Server and always found IL2 attacking the front and sometimes even escorted. Needless to say, they all went down on flames by the mighty power of the 190 hehe
dburne Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I get rubber banding and i have the warthogs what are your settings. I also have a Warthog, and I did as well.
KoN_ Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Considering the IL-2 was named the black death " i hope i have that right ", and was as hard as nails to bring down , hence the gun pods attached to the 109 , yes it is easy to bring down all aircraft . smoke and more smoke and black smoke and fire . just a few hits . i am begining to wonder if i should of bought this . LOL Sorry , but i just feel so negative towards the game as time goes on . Edited January 28, 2015 by II./JG77_Con
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 -snip- Sorry , but i just feel so negative towards the game as time goes on . Don't be sorry, mate. There are definitely some cheesy, questionable bits and many people are going to strong-arm you, throw up the defensive barrier and try to shout you down as a "hater" but there are also plenty of us willing to acknowledge and discuss the faults that BOS currently has. The smoke is cheesy and seems really overdone. I am right there with you. If anything these forums are a life lesson on taking the good with the bad. It is entirely up to you which one weighs out.

I basically spent an hour trying different settings. I don't think the dead zone gets rid of it totally. Edited January 29, 2015 by deleted@30725

I agree with most everything you say Bear. one area that appears to not been fixed, though they say in the 'official ' thread that it has, is the AI wingman in the campaigns. Personally, I don't care if I have an AI wingman or not because I will finish the mission myself. However, it's just that you know if it's there it should work. And they tell you it's fixed and, at least for myself and several others, it's not. But I like BoS and had a great time last night pitting my Lagg 3 against a 190. With time and yes, a bit of patience will come a jewel. Chief Edited January 29, 2015 by -NW-ChiefRedCloud
D_Konig Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Regards to future expansion - whats with all the desert skins in game? Will we possibly see an African campaign against the british (planes already developed from CLOD)? Hoping for more content / campaigns/ campaign features in the future.
GP* Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) If you are experiencing rubber banding, try setting pitch and yaw curves in the 30s...I believe I have mine set at 34. Roll can be left as-is. Stability within these axes at moderate to high control deflection is still a hotly debated topic (yaw was much improved in the last patch), and the above settings won't change the behaviors in question. However, it will help smooth out your flying, which should make for a more enjoyable experience overall. I hope this helps Edited January 30, 2015 by Prefontaine
