334th_L0C0 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Can we see an example of an ROF skin please? 2D that is. Not an in game pic.
O_Smiladon Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 you can d/load a skin template from the ROF website
Bearcat Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) I wonder if BoM will have skins with alpha layers in them like in WoP so we can have reflections on polished metal. I like the Wop Skinning better than the DCS skinning even though DCS is more detailed. Wop skinning is like IL2 with an added alpha channel layer.. while DCS is the same but each plane has a FORE/AFT/LEFT/RIGHT component so each skin has 8 parts total. .. and by the way .... WoP is a DX9 sim... and it looks GREAT! Edited December 16, 2012 by Bearcat

migmadmarine Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Well, I ROF does, so I don't see why BoS wouldn't. The cowling on the Pup can really shine.

Logan Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Dang, Jaws pimped his ride! Looks very nice, I want bling too! :D
Jaws2002 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) Dang, Jaws pimped his ride! Looks very nice, I want bling too! You can get that by playing with the alpha layer. areas of the plane covered with light grey alpha layer become shiny in game. Edited December 17, 2012 by Jaws2002
1CGS LukeFF Posted December 18, 2012 1CGS Posted December 18, 2012 (edited) Alpha layers in ROF also come in handy with certain planes like the Spad. Make a certain part of the cowling "transparent," for instance, and you'll see a wire-mesh air intake in the game. It's a great feature. Edited December 18, 2012 by LukeFF
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I found all the in-game templates here: http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=112&t=6055 The skin textures are in 2048 x 2048 px, and the template comes already divided into panel-lines, shading, weathering etc. There's even a mapping layer, showing how it is applied! If Jason decides to have the same skinning system with available templates for BoS, I will be a very, very happy camper!
Bearcat Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Me too.. That was exactly what I was hoping for..
SR-F_Winger Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 (edited) If the skintempaltes in BOS will be anything like the ones in ROF we skinners will have a great time. There is a UV map layer and everything else nicely separated in layersets. Really clean files. Winger EDIT: Opps just read that it has already been said:P Sorry. Edited December 18, 2012 by Winger
334th_L0C0 Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 I have high hopes that the skins can be added as they can with the other IL2s, and not like ROF's system with the submissions packs. 3
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 It's perhaps the wrong place to ask, but RoF do allow you to use your own personal skins offline, don't they?
migmadmarine Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 If you swap your game into the "Mods On" mode (IE nondefault content will be used) then you can use a personal skin in SP with out needing to go through the approval process.

So that means there are unofficial skins you can download and use offline, and then you might later find the unofficial skin has been made official in an a skin pack that one can buy to use online?

Skins are free - nobody needs to 'buy' them. Edited December 19, 2012 by AndyJWest
