Luger1969 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Hi fellow pilots. I am very new to aircombat flightsimming and needs to assistance. I use a logitec 3d pro joystick and will probably upgrade in the future. I have ensured that the joystick is calibrated and I have tested the axis's in BOS to see adjust sensitivity and to see that joystick movements = the correct outputs on roll, pitch and yaw. They are mostly linear except yaw where I found that when I pulled back on the joystick there was also a rudder movement to the left. I sorted that with a deadzone in the centre. I have no assist aircraft settings except for allowing auto pilot. I mostly fly the BF109G2. Please help me with: [a]Barrelrolls. I have both the requiem videos (excellent), one for BOS and the other Aircombat Lib. The procedures are..[1]pitch up to desired angle...pull back on stick, [2]move stick to 7 or 4 o' clock position, [3]use rudder to tighten the roll if required. Do I get this right. More than often my barrelrolls are very compressed (difference between highest and lowest point) compared to the videos and my knowledge. What could be wrong. (I have given up on barrelrolls in ROF.) Is it true that german aircraft turn best to the left and russian best to the right? Read this somewhere. [c]I know that manoeuvres would differ according to speed available and the situation. On the 109G2 do you perhaps have info on: [1]the optimum bankangle, sufficient that would not bleed too much energy.... 70degrees? [2]the opitimum pitch up angle that would not quickly bleed too much energy....20degrees? (I get the feeling that for anything above 20 speed is quickly lost in a sustained climb) Would a yak or la 5 be able to keep up.. lets say speed would be between 350-400 km/h. [d]When I watch videos of combat on youtube a lot of manoeuvres to me look like either rolling scissors or hammerheads/stall turns in the vertical repeated over.... The aircraft pass each other at the merge..1 pulls and then also the other as a result and as they pass/merge in the vertical they fire. I am not sure of the correctness of my names for these manoeuvres but is this a correct observation. When I try to do this in practice the first manuevre is usually fine but from the second or third I stall quick and dont seem to get the height. One of the most important lessons I have learned is to be smooth with the control movements. Any help will be appreciated. Sorry about the long email.... Hi fellow pilots. I forgot also to ask. The BF109G2 pulls up and to the right...to get to level flight without trim I have to push the nose down and to the left. Is this a correct observation from me.
voncrapenhauser Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) Think that the turn left turn right easiness is to do with rotation direction of the engine. The gyroscopic tendencies of the prop. The fact that the prop is also like a big screw through the air pushing in one direction .....there has to be a force in the opposite direction. In real life flying I was taught that you put in the correct inputs to get the aircraft going where you want it (Harmonising controls of course). Learning what air combat manuovers work in what instance will truly only come with practice. But the basics you and Requiem describe are a real good start. Requiem has years of this under his belt. 6./ZG26_5tuka Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Yes, most of your question relate to basic flying rather than air combat. You need to get a feel for planes and their aerodynamics to slowly learn how to fly your manouvres properly and efficiently. [1]the optimum bankangle, sufficient that would not bleed too much energy.... 70degrees? [2]the opitimum pitch up angle that would not quickly bleed too much energy....20degrees? (I get the feeling that for anything above 20 speed is quickly lost in a sustained climb) Would a yak or la 5 be able to keep up.. Rule Nr. 1: Pitch and bank angle are not suited for aerodynamical or performance analysis. Every aircraft differs in it's aerodynamics and performance (different wings, engine, weight, ect) so will those. Every aircraft has a recommended climbing speed for optimum climb rate, The higher or lower you go form there the lower your effective rate of climb will be. For most fighters ingame it's 270-280km/h this is your airspeed you need to keep while climbing to get best climb performance), Banking you plane will always result in loss of lift. The more you bank the less lift your wings can produce and the faster you'll end up in a stall. You can google plenty of suff about accelerated stalls for more information. Also remember to fly manouvres clean and smoothly. Short and vicious movements fo your stick disturb the air and create drag, thus slowing you down. You also have to mind your AoA change when manouvreing and to not exeed it's max limit. 1
Luger1969 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Thanks guys for good advice... i will need to learn +practice +expriment. That is all part of the fun. Also have to get basics right first.
indiaciki Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Do your landings first. Lots of landings. And then some more...
