Hr_Rossi Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Ok i have long time not playing BoS because i bought the MiG-21 on DCS and spend a much time with it. Now i switched back to BoS, not only because i love this Sim but more to accomplish the SPcampain. Now i got the problem that the AI, even when its in average Mode, shoot me down by the very first bullet. Doesnt matter if its a Gunner in bomber or an enemy fighter. The first Tracer-BAM- into my face. Sure i am not an expert but far away from a beginner. The enemy bombers are making hard turn maneuvers also when they are over there target area( not that big problem but seems very unrealistc for me as they never hit any target with this behavior). Did i lose my skill? I dont think so. For now i have such a hard time to finish only one mission in expert mode and i really dont like to switch to normal difficulty. Have you people the same impression?
Y-29.Silky Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 You didn't lose skill. We all pretty much have the same impression. They are insane.
Willy__ Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Dont even think going head-on against the AI fighter, it has un-human accuracy, it will hit even shots consired impossible for a human. As for the bombers, their AI is a bit off I guess (hard turns), and never sit at a bomber's six, the AI will shred you (although there are times that the AI bugs out and dont shoot a single bullet), anyways, keep doing slash attacks on the bombers and you'll be ok. Sokol1 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) This above. And, AI gunners have very low "radio of fire" - they fire a ~3 second burst, then wait ~10 seconds or more to fire again. You have plenty o time to get the bomber un-molested, but with at least 15 degrees of deflection. Going by "dead 6" you are facing the gunner (laser) precision at this angle and to add insult to injury, are exposing the sensible frontal engine hit box ("6" bullet here did the job) for his fire. And exploit the fact that Pe-2 gunners most of time dont fire at enemy fighters. Edited January 18, 2015 by Sokol1
Hr_Rossi Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 thanks for the replys. I never go straight towards a targets but sure my tactics needs improvments, this will never stop i will watch the gunner interval maybe this helps. THX!

If the AI are giving you a hard time you need to re-evaluate the way you engage. Never do head-ons with enemy fighters - ever!. They're going to be a 50/50 affair at best. And always engage enemy bombers, at speed, either from above or below - and incorporate some 'curve' in your approach if at all possible. And after the merge, keep going. Do not sit there getting shot at. Climb or dive away and reposition out of range for another attack. The only time you should sit behind an enemy bomber is when you know for a fact that the air gunners are hanging dead in their straps. And remember, speed, speed, speed. Oh yeah, and when I say from 'above or below' I mean directly above or directly below, if possible. You want to fly past the bomber, at the merge, at something like a 90 degree angle. Don't fall in behind him no matter how fast you're going. Fly through the merge and then re-position.
Livai Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 The best AI skill ever --> A turret that never dies
BlitzPig_EL Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I wish my gunner in the IL2 was like that. The Stuka gunners are all snipers, but the guy behind me might as well be blind and drunk.
Yakdriver Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 yep... heinkel 111 behaving like a heinkel 112. Not like a B-17
heinkill Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Yes if you spend some time watching AI dogfight AI (I do, for screenshots) you see that AI-AI head on merge situations almost always result in one aircraft being fatally damaged. Lesson, never take on the AI head to head.
Hr_Rossi Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 ok to clear the things up, i almost never fight head to head even its a human player. And fu++ the sh++ i like the picture from Superghostboy
