first of all the custom (Cheat) skills ae not working (ammo runs dry enemy planes shoot me down).  also I keep losing control of the plane into an unrecoverable spin into the ground.  I payed a lot of money for a game I can not play.  I request the cheats skill be re-instated and an arcade controlling mode be available for all skill modes as I can't figure out trim and stabilization for the life of me as I do not work as a pilot.

Watch a few how to's on youtube . It'll help . If youre going into a high speed spin , you're over controlling the plane and trying to turn too sharp . Also try to avoid turning sideways , you end up losing all your air speed . If you instead go vertical while turning you can regain your speed when you come down . Basically turn in the vertical or half loop . But allow the plane to get up past say 350 kmh before doing so . If you do a loop at too slow a speed you'll go into a stall and spin out of control . This is far more realistic than arcade versions like warfighter . If you have enough altitude , you can get out of the spin by throttling back , go full opposite rudder to the spin and full down elevator . Make sure you throttle back in a stall , because a lot of the problem of going into a spin is prop torque pulling you around . With not enough airspeed over your controls , the only effective force left is prop torque . Keep practising , watch a few instructional vids . One more thing , with the German planes , you want to set up separate keys for left brake and right brake .On my keybord I have set up B for basic brakes , N for left brake and M for right brake .Then I set Shift M for map so it doesn't show up every time I press right brake . Especially with the FW190 , it likes to go into a ground loop and you can recover when it starts to go around by tapping right brake a couple of times . Good luck .

Also, that unlimited ammo cheat skill DOES work, you just have to reload and recharge the weapon after emptying it.

This is a aircraft flying type game, it does say a joystick is needed. You payed a lot of money for a game you don't know how to play. Try to pick one plane and learn how to fly it using the qmb with no other aircraft around. Once you learn how to control the plane add some bad guys in and try to shoot them. You can turn on unlimited ammo and all that, but if you don't know how to control the plane it will do you no good.I don't mean to sound like a d**k but this is not an easy game from the start. Small steps you will get there and you will find you don't need "cheats" or arcade/easy modes.

Oh and welcome to the addiction. :salute:

There is a steeper learning curve for sims. Practice in qmb and watch tutorials. Be patient, it takes time.

This is a fair and honest complaint/request/question from a casual gamer, and then you have the other side of the coin with complaints coming from simmers.  When a game/sim tries to please everyone, it ends up pleasing no one.  This is why I think BoS is in serious trouble in its current state.  It sits in a crevasse between casual gamers and simmers that is too wide to bridge.  1CGS is going to have to decide what BoS is and move it to one side or the other of the crevasse.

Have you flown other sims? Are you familiar with flying?

I do agree with you Bucksnort but I'd like to think there is a crossover where the casual gamer can have fun here too. But the OP doesn't state what he is flying/trying to fly, or if he has a joystick. Then request an "arcade mode" for all levels ( read that as easy joystick with auto rudder and trim or mouse fly/aim) Instead of learning the game as it is. You don't have to be a hard core simmer to fly this but you do have to figure out how it works. Its a big learning curve for a casual gamer to get in the air here. Time and practice is all it takes. We should help as much as we can( IMO hard core simmer or not) to get the noobs in the air.

What Blackwolf said.

Some people here have been flying combat flight sims for 10 or 20 years or more and like everyone else, they're still learning.  Each new sim brings new challenges but first of all you must learn to fly.  It can take months to get to a point where you can get up and down consistently.  Combat is something else again.  And when you think you've got that down pat, and you go online - prepare to have the living crap kicked out of you.  It's a whole new world online.  So, little steps.

Thanks for your advice guys.  I am new to sims and have just bought a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.  I wish to learn but I wish there was an easier way to pracrice before ramping up the realism. :D

Once you pick your plane (switching planes is not a good idea) practice landings. There is nothing more gratifying than good landing. As Wulf said. Little steps. He' s also right about experience. Most of us fly sims for 20 years a lot fly actual aircraft and it's still challenging. If you'd like to compare it to any game - chess would be a good one. You always have to learn. There's always room for impovement and flying MP is incedible. If you like flying you'll be flying sims for the rest of yor life.

Don't try to learn with crutches it will hurt you in the long run. Try normal settings at first. Like I and others said pick one plane..stick with it until you can fly it well and land it. Once you have the control then try to fight with it. You need to figure out what you can and can't do with said plane. Once you get there get teamspeak if you don't have it. Most of us are on it at some point in the day or night. Go online to a training server like New Wings or any other like that fly with some guys that can walk you through it. Its the best way to learn, from us old guys. :) The 3d should do well for you. I've never used it but I have talked with others that have and love it.

Later on you will say hey what if I get a hotas set up like a X-65 and rudder peddles  ..oh and track IR so I can look around..like I said welcome to the addiction.

Without rudder pedals make sure the rudder assist is on.

If you are beginning with the sims you may want to check out Rise of Flight. Basic version with just three planes is free to play, revel of realism similar to BoS but it's WWI so the planes are much less powerful, less complicated and more forgiving - and it has a tutorial (very good in first missions, insanely hard later). The free Albatros is best plane for first steps self-training I came across in any sim (personal opinion, of course).

Hi, actually the game is working perfectly, the problem is that you have entered in a steep learning curve, this types of flight game called flight simulators, try to emulate the

real sense and "difilcuty" of fly an airplane, it's not like games as War Thunder or War of Warplanes that are more like easy for all with simplified physics and flight systems.

in a game like BoS you need a joystick even a basic one with throttle and rudder axis, and then pick up a crate and slowly learn how to master it, many of us has preference

for a few planes or some even just for one and doesn't fly anything else.

as other member says look for "how to's" videos there are plenty of it, and ask specific questions in this forum.

Back in 2002 I started back into the world of simulation gaming with IL-2 Sturmovik and I have to admit it took me quite a while to get onboard with how to fly and then fight properly with the game.

My technique was spend a lot of time in the QMB just flying by myself at first and then later into combat situations. I kept learning one or two new thing and adjusting my flying until I was starting to feel pretty competent with it. IL-2 BoS is perhaps even more challenging when it comes to flying although Normal mode does make things simpler. Set aside a little time whenever you can and just get the hang of flying... since it's a simulation and dying isn't an issue, start by flying really simple stuff and then do some crazy stuff too. Crash that plane. See what happens in a stall and how much you can ride it before the plane departs from normal flight.

It's all part of the learning process and it's much better to laugh at the silly things you can do :)

What Trupobaw said.  Great place to learn basic flying skills and it's free.

About weapons reloading, I think it is horrible. I mean, works in a strange way. Sometimes you have to histerically press the R key, some other times weapons are reloaded immediately; abolutely random and unreliable. Sometimes it does reload, but foe a second or two you just can't shoot

so many dogfights I have messed up because of this crappy implementation!

If I decide to play arcade in relax and have UNLIMITED ammo, they just must be bloody unlimited, I dont want to bother pressing R or worrying about my guns running dry

I'd prefer lightsabers over unlimted ammo. They would improve realism in arcade mode.

I played the campaign with a Keyboard only.  Now I fly with a game console controller. Multiplayer with Expert Settings no problems for me. It is the plane that matters if you need more hardware. Thats why I chosen the Bf-109.

X-box controller to me is much better for rudder control an vision. Way better than any jostick. I flew ROF almost exclusively using an x-box controller. Full realism. I use joystick buttons and axis for throttle, prop RPM, trim, flaps, wheel brakes and snap views only.

I might suggest you fly the New Wing Basic Training server if you fly online. As it is set up for learning against AI opponents. If any of our volunteers are available we would be happy to try and help you. Others here might take you under their wing and help you. Our New Wings Forums has a wealth of information available on flying and it is the quickest way to get help if you leave us a post or PM.

First thing that you personally need to do is calm down, and have a little more confidence in your self. Heck I'm pretty sure I know how to fly. However when I first started in BoS I couldn't get one aircraft off the ground. My frustration was distracting me. But my getting hold of that and my determination to overcome this obstacle carried me through.

If you can't do this, there is no one here that can help you. Control setups because of the nature of the various sticks and such varies greatly. But still there are those here if you get on TeamSpeak with them can help guide you through most of the difficulties.
