downedpilot Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 i have loaded free track on my pc , made a cap with three led lights, took the ir filter out of cam, it works fine. the big let down is daylight, indoor lights ext. every time my dinner room door is opened the sun light from the front door crashes free track, when indoor lights our turned on you have to retune free track. free track is a great thing if you have it set up in a room with same light conditions 24/24 ,has you will be tuning it up every time light conditions change. i wonder if trackir 5 has the same problems
Ala13_Kike Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) If you're using IR LEDs, try to put in your webcam lens one piece of used roll film, front the lens. (Sry, you are using IR Filter...put other on the first IR filter that you have, and other if you need and try) In other side, if you want that your Freetrack system goes like trackir, in perfomance, you can use a PS3 webcam or Nintendo Wiimote like webcam. PS3 webcam give you 120fps, and Wiimote give you 100fps in captation. Goes very smooth with this. In this case you will need one bluethoot system, in my case I use Conceptronic Bluethoot (USB), with toshiba chip, and goes perfectly with 100fps in captation. Wiimote has a IR filter that avoid the problem that you explain. PS3 webcam haven't , but you can do the same, put one IR filter in front your webcam lens. Edited January 15, 2015 by SuDoKu 1
No_85_Gramps Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Are you using IR LEDs? If so do as Sudoku suggested. You can use a piece of old floppy disk material to block out most everything but the cam will still see the IR LEDs. Also, sometimes you need to adjust the camera's exposure/contrast/gain settings. 1
-TBC-AeroAce Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I used a pice of old video tape and it works fine. Make sure u are using wide angle ir leds. And as gramps said play with the exposure to dial out any background clutter. On a side note when using freetrack it's completely black apart from the ir points but if I view the cam with open track I can see everything like no light filter is there. It's very strange. I use ps3 eye and max fps is 75 not 100 for me anyway 1
Ala13_Kike Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) I use ps3 eye and max fps is 75 not 100 for me anyway This that you mention this is rare. What type of USB have connected the PS3 cam? I don't know if this cam is connecter via bluethoot or usb...but I have 100fps with Wiimote, PS3 has plus perfomance in this Edited January 15, 2015 by SuDoKu 1
No_85_Gramps Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) I get 120 FPS from the PS3 eye. I use opentrack and set the camera resolution to 320 x 240. At 640 x 480 I get 75 FPS. In opentrack you can set the resolution on the Pointracker settings tab, probably the same in freetrack. As far as the LEDs go, if they are not wide angle as AeroAce mentioned you can file them down so they have a flat face, it helps. Edited January 15, 2015 by Gramps 1

Then you can polish the filed area with a little toothpaste (not a gel type must be a paste). 1
