I see from the screenshot in the OP that some of the skin names seem to be quite long.  I don't know if they've changed things for BoS (I haven't seen anything posted about this sort of thing here yet), but for RoF there were sometimes problems with too-long skin names (sometimes they would work, sometimes not) and we were advised to keep the skin names limited to 17 characters (20, including the .dds extension).

This might apply to some of my skins. Ill check that.

Thanks for the advice.

the reason for empty VVS folders, is because most of the guys are doing custom name ones and no generics Skins, If I saw a Generic skin I would grab it. but if it has a custom name

on it. I wont use it.

"custom name".....What are you talking about?

the file name decides wether you use a skin or not?

or does the skin have to be generic?

because these rioght there are not generic skins - they are very specific, probably to a squad or something...

Pah.
what irks me is you used a slot online to do that... makes no sense at all.

that A3 - stellfeld was not a generic either... double standard.

whatever.
moving on...

Please tell us more about this "custom names". They didn't post anything about a standardized way to name a skin. In ROF this was all posted in a sticky, on top of the forum. Skins had to be named a certain way for approval, but this is a different game. It may not work the same way. They said nothing about this!

Are we going to have issues because of this "custom names"? Are they going to show online?

If skins have to be named a certain way, in order to work correctly, why nobody said nothing?

There are already a bunch of skins out there, and if the game needs them named in a certain way, this has to be made clear so we don't waste our time making skins that don't work, or crash the game!

Jeez guys - I don't think people need to start panicking because of my off-hand comment above.  I don't know if the BoS skins are going to work the same way as RoF or not.  I would think/hope that if there were similar issues/restrictions for the BoS skins the devs would have said something about it by now, but they've just made the skins available and have been out on vacation/holidays for a while and there's still a lot about the way skins will ultimately be used that we're not sure about, so I just thought a cautionary word about file name lengths might be helpful.

If the long names you've used so far are working in the game so far, then I guess chances are pretty good that they'll keep working.  But for those people who like to be cautious (like me) it might be worth considering keeping the names short going forward, until we hear something definitive from the devs.

Didn't mean to start a firestorm.

That is a good point Jaws.. and while I don't think there is a certain naming nomenclature that we need to use Mastiff's video does an excellent job of showing just how we should do it.

plane name _customskinname ie. fw190a3_customskinnamehere

If someone is using a custom skin and you do not have that skin I believe you will see the default on your rig.

If my memory serves me correctly skins will be different from RoF in that it is up to us to insure that we have the custom skins for individuals .. otherwise the default skin will show up.

Man you guys take everything like a robot literal; custom names like i.e your name on the out side of the cockpit, i.e. big letter on the side of the plane that say your name on it, I'm not going to show case some ones nic name thats on the

side of the plane. thats a custom name. now generic skins with no nicnames is what I will show.

Bearcat - that part is exactly like RoF.  In RoF, if you do not have someone's custom/personal skin installed on your PC, you will see them flying in the default skin - anybody who does have that custom/personal skin installed on their PC will see them flying in that custom skin (assuming that they're using approved skins in "mods off" mode, or are flying in "mods on" mode).

The part that seems to be different for sure, so far, is that there's been no sign of a mods on/mods off, "approved" skin pack concept over here in BoS like they use in RoF - instead with BoS they seem to have gone with a ranked vs. unranked server concept  (and a campaign vs QMB concept) to determine when these custom skins will be visible in game.

I'm not going to fly around with your name on my plane. if you make a custom skin with out your name on it, yes I will defiantly show it.

Panthers, wingers, and a few others have both type of skins one with a pilot name on it one with out.

as far as custom names of skin I have no idea what your talking about.

the file name decides wether you use a skin or not?

Makes no since that their was no one on line to fly but me. but if you want no one in the servers at all, I can oblige you.

the Fw190A3 skin was generic there was no pilot name on it.

FYI: In fact some of my skins were named too long. I corrected that for all skins and reuploaded them to the dropboxlinks i publicated here: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/13815-vsg1-die-sturmvogel-squadskins-available/

I apologize for the inconvenience but in order to see our squad in its colors or fly one of the generic skins you should delete the old versions and replace them with the newly renamed ones.

Yeah that was what I meant.. it is all worked out by the pilots... :salute:

Sorry.

Just FYI - we haven't set any specific rules for naming skins. Usual letters, numbers and some standard symbols
