Krakow Aviation Museum

I first visited the museum 20 years ago when the manager just happened to be my Polish born wifes first boyfriend when she was a teenager living in Poland.

Back then, pre original IL2 release, my interest was purely as a pilot, and as such (because of the old boyfriend) got to sit in a range of WW1 and 2 aircraft.

This time around my main interest was RoF, IL2 and BoS aircraft. There are multiple RoF WW1 aircraft including a recently restored pristine Bristol.

Wrt BoS, the closest are an IL-10 (not many would be able to differentiate it from an IL-2), a PE-2 lookalike, a Night Witches PO-2, a JU-52, LI-2, and the piece de resitance - a Bf 109 G6. Been a while since I have seen a 109 and I had forgotten how small they are.

Unfortunately, the ex-boyfriend has retired so didnt get to sit in anything this time around.

The museum list of planes, helos, engines and odds and sods can be seen by googling the topic heading, but I suspect the site has not been updated for a while because the aircraft section listing is missing a lot of planes.

Well worth a visit, I reluctantly dragged myself away after 3 1/2 hours.

No good asking for photos because my wife had the camera elsewhere and I couldnt be arsed to lug the ipad around.

That's amazing. I always check out local air/ space museums when I travel. Even the smallest ones offer hours of entertainment.

I have been in Krakau several times. Shame on me, I didn´t know about the museum.

The military museum in Warsaw is worth a visit, there`s an IL2, IL10, Pe2 some jets and a Yak 3 or 9 as well as  various T34s and Kats etc etc. Been about 8 years since I went and the planes were not well looked after, hopefully they`re still there.

The museum has a good collection of plane engines, including Rolls-Royce Merlin. I was more interesting in WWI engines when I last visited that part, but large part  of engine collection is WW2.

Here's il-10, pardon me obstructing it.

Also, Udet's Curtiss Hawk

Those intertested in Polish aviation (or just remembering the plane from 1946) can find last P.11 there.

Finally, the old WWI exposition is covered here. To bad the new one goes out of it's way to obscure the planes. Promise to make more photos of WW2 part when I get there again.
