Can I save or copy video records to a file outside of BoS...

After several issues with the record facility (tends to crash if I try to change rename or edit!! - 3 re-instals) I just wondered if I could save my favourite landings and kills outside of BoS.

copy them outside of BoS if you have no space?

[huh- change? change the content of the file?]
[rename? rename to what exactly?]

[edit? edit how... in a video editor?]
[reinstall? these are like screenshots... what the hell is going on that you would need a reinstall?!!]

*confused*

tell us more. the whole picture.

If I remember correctly the video files are not viewable outside of the game. I think to do that you need to use another video capture program. NVIDIA users have access to Shadowplay, and others use FRAPS and I think one called Bandicam. If I am wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

of course....
they are not Movies or anything...
can only Viewed in the game.
and the older the tracks are, the higher the chance that they do not work, because the game has been updated in the meantime and can not read old files any more.

Can someone please explain how (technically, of course), a BoS Flight Record makes it to YouTube? Or is what I'm seeing an impossibility, because they "can only (be) Viewed in the game"?

By play the track in game an record with external software, e.g. Open Broadcaster Software (Fraps, Bandicam, Shadow Play...) in MP4, AVI...

Then this new recorded file can be edited, e.g. removing boring parts - with Windows Movie Maker (or similar/better software) and upload to YT.

Here's my flow:

  1. In-game, hit Ctrl-R to record.
  2. Close game, set resolution to something like 1280 x 720, and restart game
  3. Start Fraps
  4. Replay recording, capture relevant sequences in Fraps; Fraps will save them as .avi files
  5. Load .avi files with VirtualDub (freeware), cut and edit as necessary. Save results as .avi files
  6. For overlays etc, use AviSynth (a free plugin that works with VirtualDub).
  7. Use Microsoft Movie Maker (free) to paste all the .avi snippets together, add sound and other effects if desired, and save the whole thing as .mp4 file.
  8. Upload .mp4 file to YouTube
