-TBC-AeroAce Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) To start with I play Normal because of time, poor eyesight.... so please dont turn this into a hardcore is better. Im really frustrated atm because I enjoy all of the hardcore stuff like flight planing,CEM(always set to manual), attacking your targets smartly, thinking about ur flight........... But all a normal user like me has at the moment is DED like air quake, air-spawn, dogfight, just get in and take out as many as possible then get shot down, no objectives.......... I had a lot more fun in EA as people worked together on these servers alot more I try fly smart, select a good target, sacrifice alt, get a kill, then O wait they are on top of me because of airspawn. ALSO im not saying these DED like normal servers are bad, if thats what you like then fine I dont judge. But I would really like a normal server that is not just a DF server!!!!!!!!! Is that so hard to ask???? I also guess that the general reply will be wait for D SERVER a more interesting question may be how many normal flyers actually think and care about more than DF? Leaf Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 A mission-based "normal" server is indeed necessary; it would add a lot and be very popular, I'm sure.
Jaws2002 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 No dedicated server, no ability to host simple server without dedicated server, no mission builder to make missions for online, Add to that random crashes, planes zigzagging across the sky and other oddities.....I'm surprised there are still people online.

Please I dont want this just about the lack of these features, Im more about finding out how many normal players like more that simple airquake These Features will come....... but how populated wil they be??? A mission-based "normal" server is indeed necessary; it would add a lot and be very popular, I'm sure. I really hope so In EA the normal sever was basic and quite good IMO, U had to take off from a close field or airspawn from a far one, If the home field got taken over u just go to airspawn and try clear it. But with pure DF I feel iv lost half of my game, yes I can fly a lil but more I think and I cant do that with pure DF Edited January 9, 2015 by AeroAce

I'm sure a mission oriented server, with easier settings would be popular, but very few teams have access to the tools.
FlatSpinMan Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I imagine it'd be really popular. The deserver is supposed to be out pretty soon, so hopefully someone is interested in running one.
Y-29.Silky Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) I'm lost in all these abbreviations. Any Normal server is mostly going to be dogfighting regardless of objectives since it's very easy to spot enemies and ground attack is basically suicidal, if they can even make it off the ground. I can't even play in Normal servers because all it is, is head-on, head-on, get close enough to an enemy and it still, it ends up as a head-on engagement. I'm sure if you contact the DED guys, they may change their Normal server mission to a more immersive one. Edited January 9, 2015 by Silky

Everyone knows where you're going.

I have a full mission design ready to go with a group of people ready to support a server and no software to play with. The current servers you see are what you get until dserver official release.
BlitzPig_EL Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I know quite a few that want a "normal" server but without the icons. Really need to be able to customize settings, rather than just a couple presets. 1
KodiakJac Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) ^^^^ THIS Objectives on a server with icons are pointless. Everyone knows where you're going. Is it possible to adjust at what distance aircraft icons display? If you saw no aircraft icons (or map icons) until a range of about 2 km flights could move around undetected but you would still have icons for dogfighting. And yes, I would consider coming back to MP normal servers if they were truly objective based (I used to fly Air Warrior and Aces High). For me at least, its not about mastering piloting skills anymore, its about participating in interesting and engrossing military careers and campaigns, or in the case of MP, missions. Another idea would ranking and stats for high alt bombing and jabo pilots. If they got the same kudos as fighter pilots you would have a whole lot more targets out there. Really need to be able to customize settings, rather than just a couple presets. And I know quite a few that want a 'full-real' server plus icons. Like "Aces Falling" server in RoF. Let's hope we will have both types eventually. On topic: I prefer 'task oriented' servers/missions too. Edited January 9, 2015 by ST_ami7b5
BlackDevil Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) To start with I play Normal because of time, poor eyesight.... so please dont turn this into a hardcore is better. As I have the opinion, like Silky said, the icons prevent any objective based operation, may I ask, what head tracking and zoom input you use ? I am old enough to not see few pixel planes as well. I use a thumb stick at the throttle for zoom. For spotting I use full zoom, and for dogfight I just release the zoom for fractions of a second to keep SA. Togethter with TIR5 I dont loose the enemy at those short moments. Years of RoF experience showed me, that the big objective based maps have icons off (wargrounds, syndicate) and the small dogfight maps have it on (aces falling). Both opposite alternatives dissappeared due to lack of interest. Edited January 9, 2015 by BlackDevil
ST_ami7b5 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) While flying the second half of the campaign full real (to unlock things faster) I really had a problem to spot an artillery... Edited January 9, 2015 by ST_ami7b5

The icons already work that way, but that only helps if people are too stupid to communicate what they see on their maps to each other.
=AVG=Zombie Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Can not see how a server with Icons on with work with objectives. To easily spotted, not to mention only so many routes to a target.....
No601_Swallow Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Whether not you think it would work for objective-based coop-type gameplay to have icons on is beside the point. It doesn't matter if you think it wouldn't work. What's important is that a player would like the freedom to play in the way that he wants. Hopefully, as this sim matures, choices like this, to do with difficulty settings or graphics, or to do with coop/df missions, etc, all of these choices will become available. 2

I use freetrack My problem is not as such bad eyesight I'm actually 20:20 it's that I work at a pc all day and when I get home and play my eyes get tired and a bit blurry making it almost impossible to spot targets. I love the whole hardcore thing but cant play for long. I think the idea of setting icons to appear at smaller distances is a must, also they could be just one colour so u are unsure if it's friend or foe until quite late
ST_ami7b5 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Errr, forgive my ignorance...but what is a D Server please, I see it mentioned all the time?.... A dedicated server, see: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/dedicated_server.html
