This is a picture of ice and broken up chunks of ice on a river in the Tarnopol map in Rise of Flight that i saw on the RoF website. Something like this might be a nice addition to BoS by breaking up some of the monotony of the Landscape and  It would aid navigation by making it easier to see just where the rivers were. Thanks to GeezerGamer for posting this on the RoF site.

That does look pretty good and certainly would break up the white landscape quite a bit, which is a good thing, it would be cool if this was added, even to a small portion of the map.

I suppose it depends on the time frame of the battle if the rivers were frozen over or not.

I'm all for more graphical features and that looks really well done. Although I'm not sure if it'd be appropriate during the winter for this battle. I can assure you that when the high temperature is -10c and the lows drop into the -20c range... pretty much everything that isn't an extremely large lake is going to be frozen solid. As evidenced by what is currently going on outside my front door (currently -11c with a windchill in the -20 range... brrrr).

I wonder if we might see some modifications to the current map to include a less frozen Volga or say autumn or summer stages of the battle where we might have open water for a change :)

Hi 3instein. This does not have to represent warmer temps.  I've seen ice many inches thick that looks very much like this image, frozen solid with big chunks suspended in it from the last thaw.

Good point... did they get a thaw during the 1942-1943 winter period? I remember reading that it was a particularly brutal winter. But maybe.

It looks cool!

Would make a nice experiment for the Lapino map.

I agree it does look cool. It really doesn't have to be warm to get ice like this. as the ice expands it will crack and liquid water will gush out and refreeze, creating patches that look just like this.

How about artillery. Would that do it too? :)

Good image and great idea. But suddenly I see a BIG stop sign saying .... No random ice flow generator available .... propped in the corner of the 1CGS office ....

p.s. But never say never ...... :salute:
