Single Player Campaing feels unfinished (Old Thread 2015)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello

EDIT: PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FROM YEAR 2015

I feel so frustrated and bored to the game so i decided to come forums to tell it.

Have always liked the 1946 Single player campaing so i was hoping to get similiar on this new release also.

Liked to start new campaings and when i get killed or POW i start new campaing its over thats it.

The kills and statistics on campaings progress and medals they are all missing on BOS.

The Campaing on BOS issues:

Fighter missions on campaing are always almost same everytime.

You go to target there is few enemy planes.

Shoot them down then get home, last checkpoint before home field there is few enemy planes kill them or just fly past them.

Thats it.

Flyed Ju-87 mission to destroy the train.

I hit the bomb on train and it hits few wagons what are destroyed.

But the game thinks i have not destroyed enought to "complete"

I straight home and the mission is failure.

I think the mission was success i managed to destroy enemy targets.

My plane, myself and tail gunner returned home safely.

Damaged Engine feature:

When its shuts down you are shot down by the enemy.

Once i was heading home and almost at the Home Airfield when my damaged engine shuts down.

I still landed to my airfield safely but still i was shot down by the enemy Pe-2.

AI:

When the AI plane decides to land they dont abort the landing when you attack them they just want to be killed.

There are many more issues but this are the most annoying for me anyway.

You have to destroy the locomotive in order to complete the attack train mission. It does not matter, how many wagons you destroy.

Posted

I understand that but if you carry one bomb and you wont hit it.

Its like some arcade game where you need to do the objective to get to next level.

This should be realistic flight simulator not pacman.

No one thinks the campaign is ideal. The game has only been out a couple of months. Lots ofagin us hope there'll be some more development of it, and/or good user made material. As it is now, personally I can enjoy it but then again I have made an effort to imagine characters etc. It'd be nice if some of that were done for us.

Give it time is all I can say.

I'm sure there will be improvements. The campaign mode is the centrepiece of the game, as everybody must use it to fully access their aircraft. It's the crucial first impression of the product. The devs would have to be keenly aware of this.

Because squad commands are now combinations of keys in keyboard.

The old "Tab" command screen what was used also in Cliffs of Dover was working well.

Why fix something that does not need fixing.

The new command system is inferior to the older one.

You have a 1946 background, like me.

BoS is not a new 1946.

BoS is a different kind of RoF.

Everything is new.

Everything.

whilst it does not fix stuff, keeping in mind that BoS is very very far away from 1946 helps understand.

and trying RoF for a couple of hours helps too.

I had to let go completely off 1946, mentally in order to understand why some things are done so "weirdly" in BoS.

The "campaign"/unlocks is simply there to give us something to do to keep us in touch with the sim, as without it there would be nothing to do but argue on the forums.

The sim was simply released too soon.

Godspeed,

Now you can use similar orders commands, hit the key left to 1/! (varies accord keyboard language - mine is not English), to open the the "orders" in menu.

Is not comprehensive like in il-2'46 but work. Look here:

Can add: BoS is not a "il-2 Sturmovik" - despite the name. "iL-2 Sturmovik" (as we are used) is now "history". Finished.  :)

New times, new game. So, keep calm, and move on. Adapt to the new times.

Well, t-hre campaign system is completly different from RoF and indeed, lot of people would like a "RoF career" type of campaigns

This post pretty much sums up my take on the campaign.

The thing that keeps me engaged with this sim is it's basic build and what it promises for the future. I have no doubt that once the ME and DServer are released the team will move on to the next phase. Whether the sim was released too soon or not is debatable.. At least it did work for most of the folks who bought it upon release.. and the feedback garnered since then is more valuable than anything they could get from a limited group of testers.

For the devs moving forward.. IMO at least the operative word is.. or should be .. OPTIONS ... We all want OPTIONS.

For us the customers moving forward .. IMO at least .. the operative word should be PATIENCE. We all need PATIENCE.

The fact that as I said.. BoS does work at least... for most of us... and at it's core.. it is a good product and nowhere near as the total PoS that some say it is. It doesn't have a long laundry list of flaws that render it unflyable.. It just has a list of flaws that .. at the moment at least for many render it not fun. FUN... is another of those operative words that the team needs to have written on a banner over the door post of their offices... but none of this is unsalvageable.. and that .. for me at least is why I am hanging in here with this.. Truth be told I get more entertainment out of QMs than I do out of the campaign.. because in a QM  I can at least fly it how I want to. At least more so than in the campaign.

The only reason I do the campaign is to unlock the content.

For an immersive campaign I understand that I will have to wait until the community comes up with something and I have no doubts that it will. No CFS can survive for long on just developer created content unless that team is churning stuff out like gangbusters..

The IL2 model is or should be the holy grail of CFS development.

Amen to that, BOS campaign system does not even hold a candle to ROF's career mode, and really can not even come close to the excellent campaign generator Pat Wilson did,  PWCG for ROF.

I continue to fly ROF...

This is what I can't understand.  Pat has built an excellent campaign system for RoF.  It's scaleable and works well.  Although he has no interest in WWII, Pat is willing to cooperate with another third party so they can build a similar system for BoS.

Why didn't the team take advantage of this and build a campaign generator on what Pat has already developed?  Why bother spending limited resources on what we have now?

Nobody likes it and it merely generates more posts from new users who are understandably less than impressed with it. :(

This one baffles me as well,  if they had just put in a career system similar, maybe a little better, than what they have in ROF it would have been a huge difference for SP. And if they had of done something similar to PWCG, wow that would have been excellent.

That part I can understand. What I don't understand is how someone buys BoS, knowing at this late date (or at least having the opportunity to know), that the sim has features he doesn't like but still pays his money. For what? The opportunity to complain? We've had dozens, maybe hundreds of posts like this. This isn't a revelation. It just serves to reopen old arguments and ill feelings.

I understand where you are coming from Rjel but in this case here we have a new guy who is not complaining about unlocks or presets or flight models over and over but pointing out some of the fairly obvious shortcomings with the campaign system the devs have built.

I'm not sure that just saying "you should have known" is an adequate response to someone who has bought the game in good faith.  It might not be a revelation for us but it obviously is for a lot of newbies.

Isn't this part of what these forums are for?

And where exactly would new players fined info, usually posts like this get lock fast, and posters call haters. Most new players dont even check forums but look at game name. There is big IL-2 Sturmovik name and mantra "The legend returns" for this game, how new players dear to think this game has some connection with what old IL-2 had to offer its really strange LOL, the players are always in fault i guess

Posts like this contribute nothing to the discussion. PM sent.

Please refrain from making them. If you want to talk about the flawed campaign system that exists in BoS at this point in it's lifespan then by all means feel free to do so but please do not make sarcastic, passive aggressive derogatory  posts like this that only serve to steer the discussion away from that topic.

The question is, only (statistically) few "grognards hardcore" play this kind of campaign. This does not attract the masses... so, XP.  :)

Thanks for answers

I will play the older releases until the game developers progress adding new features.

Playing older sturmoviks are still nice flying simulators.

BOS engine is superior platform to make the simulator far better than predecessors.

Im also waiting to see BF-110 and Macchi maybe i come back then :)

It has been long time since i visited in game and here on forums.

The game has not improved at all on issues what i posted on January.

I was hoping that maybe dynamic career mode would save this game but then it would lack content but better than nothing.

I feel that im losing faith on this game.

Have you played Veteran's missions or Juris?

If not then you are missing out

Posted

Sometimes playing a handful of player made missions that are not "connected" just does not compare to what the op is looking for. A good campaign is way different.

But no, nothing in that area has been done. Nothing like that anytime soon will be done...if ever.

You won't get a good campaign feel here Godspeed, but the missions mentioned will provide you with some excitement and  the best "unit cohesiveness" that I've seen in any missions that the game has to offer.  Nothing planned it appears to enhance the historical unit type mission aspect that you desire.....but some guys are looking at giving a semblance of a career type feature in a third party contribution.  Just in the planning stages it would appear for now though.  It looks like a slow haul, but there is a lot to do within the game in it's current form, if you reach out to the third party add-ons....A parser and simple mission builder....nice skin packs, and some really great single missions that are crafted to provide a day to day sortie feel, and not like the "ground hog day" campaign that was released.

The official word is that the direction of the game is BOM, so what we have here is welll.....what we have here.... :)

This is very old thread from ancient times  when i bought dvd copy

But i have come back slowly half year ago and bought Moscow and now pre ordered Kuban.

Im very exited about coming Career Mode i hope they do it right so you can enjoy the game :)

I hope they do feature that you can fly as wingman first and rank up to become squadron leader.

I hope they do Career Mode to every plane including Ju-52 :)

Game has matured alot and only one thing is still lacking is the Single Player but career mode will be Beta pretty soon i have read

I know many people are waiting career mode.

For Developers please do everything to make career mode close to perfect as possible.

Career Mode / Dynamic Campaing is the most important feature what is missing :)

EDIT: I have used this nice page of source of information and few other sites aswell.

In the meantime, I highly recommend you check out the free and premium Scripted Campaigns.

Cold Winter and JG 51 over Velikie Luki are both free and excellent. Blazing Steppe just came out and I haven't played much yet but Ten Days of Autumn was superb and worth the $9.99 (cost me more in the conversion to CDN).

Career mode is so close now.

Been waiting this feature since 2014 its a long time :)

In my understanding it will be released in this month.

But one thing i do not know if the career mode in also to Stalingrad & Moscow in launch?

Since i own all the theaters i do not expect nothing less than fully implemented working product that people deserve.

For those who still like IL-2 1946 go to SAS1946.com and get the B.A.T. mod. Pre WW1 to modern jets B.A.T. has it all. I like 1946 and BoX and play both, 1946 for SP campaigns and BoX for multiplayer.

Lots of things have changed. 2 years ago I was asking for VR and people were laughing at me. On year ago I was making a poll of "RoF2 vs Pacific theater". People were laughing at me and even the moderator closed it as irrelevant, since there were CLEARLY no plans for any work whatsoever on WW1. Now with Flying Circus on the way, who's laughing now? Gotta love this team.

This is quite a wholesome thread, I didn't read the date on the OP and was sad to see people not enjoying what I thought was an amazing campaign by the devs, it wasn't until I scrolled to see GodSpeeds update I understood what was going on.

I was in the same place as OP, I bought Il2 BoS a few years ago and was completely dissapointed. But over the last year or so BoS has gone from strength to strength and has become the game I always wanted it to be.

Can't wait for more DLC and updates!

Agree on all of your points. I see you got a SWOTL pic in your profile. That was a great game back then and I personally hope BOX will become what SWOTL was back in the 90s.
