Question about Skin Visibility in Multiplayer

Hey Folks,

i have one question about how other players see Skins in Multiplayer. What i have understand so far, other players must have the same skin in their folder you are using, to see it. Am i right ? So if i am using a nice winter skin for my plane, to have a (slightly) better camouflage against the environment, this has no need against other players who don't have the same skin installed, because they don't see my winter skin anyway?! So what do they see? Do they see the (non-winter) "standard" camouflage? Or do you have any influence about what camo they are seeing, when they don't have yours installed? Cheers, thanks for answers

They see the default skin for the type. I think all the default skins are summer versions, so that's what they will see.

Now if we could get the DEVS to Grab the serious paintschemes we produce, and put these painschemes in their Cab, Dat, Zip files or whatever, and distribute them along with the weekly friday updates, would that not be kickass?

everyone would have the skins, and all the skins would work all the time, no matter which one you choose, the skin would be part of the game, just like the default skins.

This is true only on Ranked official servers I do believe.

Pretty sure I saw some non-default skins when I tried multiplayer on one of the unranked servers.

When I could see anything that is, my older machine cannot keep up with multiple aircraft in the same area.

Devs can't do that (think about all the user skins made so far with hakenkreuzes). The job is up to the community to organize some sort of semi-official skin packs (just like in RoF). This is badly needed IMHO, we already have a bunch of nice skins, hopefully someone will step up and get the packs out.

Wouldn't this mean that the game has to download and upload a lot of skins when you connect to a server. I believe the OP is correct about how it works. Maybe this is good as we don't get to a situation like in War Thunder where many fly custom brightly colored, stupid looking planes.

+1 but remember this could work on ranked servers as well but for that to work the skins would have to meet the official requirements.. ie no Hak..

yea but who enforces you to have the skins on your HDD.

Nobody can.

Hakenkreuze are the least of our Problems.

any unless you have them enforced, and updated frequently, the skins will not be persistent online.

hence the effort of creating skins is all but wasted.

How many people download these skins.

the russians do not, because they do not know about them - because they do not come here.

and i do not visit the Russian forums (http://forum.il2sturmovik.ru/) because i can not read that language, so i do not have the skins that the Russians produce.

That too is a factor.

We create and submit the content, they check and distribute. (dedicated thread, no hakenkreuze, no penises, serious alpha... no big deal)

Or they make the skin downloads a feature during the sessions.

I trust that either solution be adopted, as the community can barely be enabled to put together the "skins.gtp" ?

That would be cool though. And then distribute that GTP file via the Devteam.

anything else is just a hack [half-butt] solution.

it works, but only If If If.

Distributing all files, same files, with guaranteed integrity.

I hope that they do it like in RoF with these (semi)official skin packs, and put them into the auto-updates of the game. Then add a Hakenkreuz-enabler to check for the people who wanna see it, and not to check for people who don't wanna see it. This would be the absolute perfect way
