Oktusha Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Whoever is responsible for the weather system in BoS needs to be taken to the most expensive restaurant in town. This is flipping amazing to say the least! This was closing in on the last parts of chapter 4 and I flew through a snow storm the entire way. The ceiling was about 350m before I got into the clouds, and once I landed I opened the canopy to take this shot... To say this is "well done" is an understatement... Leaf Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Yep, this game's weather is pretty amazing to say the least.
IIN8II Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) i agree, the clouds/weather in BoS are, imo, the best in any sim. The snow particles could be improved a bit I think. Edited January 1, 2015 by IIN8II
SharpeXB Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 If you look closely most of the snowflakes are all the same. Not each one different like in real life. Hopefully this gets fixed in the next patch! 6
Hazzbinn Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Well I for one wont play the game anymore, until it gets fixed. 3
Oktusha Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Ummm, yeah... I think we should in fact be able to zoom in and count the crystals on each flake just to make sure they are different as well... bawhahaha
Porkman Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) I agree, I find that I am frequently surprised and impressed by the realism of the clouds. By far the most believable clouds of any flight sim I have seen and I have had multiple hours in a $60,000 full motion Redbird FSX as well as over 300 hours real flight time in single engine aircraft under VFR conditions. Truly impressive work from the cloud/weather team! Edited January 2, 2015 by Porkman
Bearcat Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 As far as eye candy goes.. this sim is right up there...
Cybermat47 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 As far as eye candy goes.. this sim is right up there... And it's not so over-the-top that it causes lag
Dakpilot Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 And it's not so over-the-top that it causes lag I feel that point cannot be overstressed Cheers Dakpilot
Potenz Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) the feeling of cold environment that BoS gives you says so much about how well done the weather system is done. I just can't wait to see what devs will bring us, when they start to experiment with new features. Edited January 2, 2015 by Erg./JG54_Potenz
Potenz Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 now this rays of sunlight through the clouds are abso-smurf-ly amazing EDIT by FSM
Jaws2002 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) i agree, the clouds/weather in BoS are, imo, the best in any sim. Nah. Not even close. Just check the new REX soft clouds in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgH6RPM6RVI Edited January 4, 2015 by Jaws2002
Potenz Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 seriously mate, you have to come and post that FSX [Edited] Moderated 1/4/15 1407 EST
Jaws2002 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) seriously mate, you have to come and post that FSX [Edited] Yep. Absolute statements like " the best clouds in any sim" are going to be looked suspicious. Maybe you need to cool down a bit. Try decaf. Edited January 4, 2015 by Bearcat
Potenz Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 why you try to start a fight do that on atag where you'll be cheered, your post is just a plain fire starter
Jaws2002 Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) You need to cool down. I was just pointing out that some sims out there have third party companies that do nothing but weather and weather effects. Some have a vastly superior weather engine to BOS. This is just the plain true. No need to jump like someone insulted your wife. It's just a game. Take a chill pill...or try them yourself. Edited January 4, 2015 by Jaws2002
361fundahl Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I hope we see lightning setting the one day!
Bearcat Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 why you try to start a fight do that on atag where you'll be cheered, your post is just a plain fire starter Not as much as your last two.. Please calm down and refrain from this line of posting. Consider that you have 3 moderated posts in this thread. Please do not make it 4.
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 You wouldn't like it if its 4. All joking aside I got to get in there and see for myself. Is this something new since 1006 patch? I've been caught up in ROF for the last few weeks and haven't done much BOS.
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 The weather is indeed nice. NOW, if it was only randomized to come and go as in say ArmA. That would be great. Chief
johncage Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 i don't know someone's taken such an issue with jaws' opinions, the screenshots he posted looked awful. if he hadn't followed up his posts, i'd have thought he was joking with the "vastly superior" comment. those clouds look like 2d sprites. and you can also see the clouds behind the clouds due to a visual artifact....or are those just tiny little cloudlets in front of an abnormally large cloud in the background?
Bearcat Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 IMO BoS has some of the best weather out that i have seen.. the overcast skies look incredible..
SharpeXB Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Nah. Not even close. Just check the new REX soft clouds in this video: Yeah let's see that SR-71 hit a tree!
Jaws2002 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Yeah let's see that SR-71 hit a tree! No trees up where I was flying that thing. that was some seven years ago, so graphics are not up to date.
Bearcat Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I dunno Jaws.. That FSX stuff looks ok.. but for me it's a total package.. and one thing that I never liked about FSX is their down low graphics.. I think BoS gets it done very well.. up high.. down low.. clear day.. overcast day... morning noon and the night time is just .. 2
SharpeXB Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 No trees up where I was flying that thing. that was some seven years ago, so graphics are not up to date. I crashed the X-15 in X-Plane 10 straight into the ground from orbit. It stuck into the earth like a tent peg. Too funny. Naw I don't expect collision models from civy sims. Nice clouds.
FlatSpinMan Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 The clouds in those pics look nice enough to me. I like their volume. As Jaws said, there's a team who just does that. Then of course, that sim doesn't have DM or AI etc to use up all the processing power. 2
Georgio Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Apart from the obvious eye candy, what I like about clouds is that they genuinely hide you if you can keep in them which is great in an IL-2 dodging the CAP. I don't have a lot of time at the moment but the few campaign missions I've tried are excellent, love some ground pounding especially when it's a big fat supply train...
Jaws2002 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Don't get me wrong, the clouds in BOS are good, I'm just not a fun of the fuzzy textures. The great thing about them is how they interact with the sunset/sunrise light. Look at this shot I got online the other night: image hosting websites In FSX you have a comprehensive weather engine, where you can get pretty much whatever weather you want. You can have one type of clouds at ground level going one way, then two thousand meters above another set of clouds and fully functional cirus, (not painted on the dome) up high, going the other way. It's such a nice experience to punch through the cirus and see all those layers move independent against the ground. Now I didn't play FSX for over five years, but even back then, with REX and GEX, the weather engine was amazing. In BOS the morning light interacts with the clouds better and from distance it looks good, It's that fuzzy texture and how bad the contour of planes look against them, that I'm not fan of. Dakpilot Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Check out this thread for a 'sort of fix' for fuzzy a/c against cloud background http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/13916-best-graphicsperformance-nvidia/ Cheers dakpilot
=AVG=Zombie Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I think the game has a pretty good engine, clouds and weather are amazing...... but i would like to see some green sooner or later, this white out gets boring...
