FlatSpinMan Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 A thread at SimHQ got me thinking. On the whole I enjoyed this year. I have two gorgeous little daughters who are healthy and happy, so that's pretty much all you need. Beyond that, I'm very lucky to have stumbled into a job I enjoy (teaching English in a Japanese private girls' school) that I would have never expected to be doing, let alone enjoying. This is my third year there now so I finally have a pretty good idea of what is going on. The first year was a BIIIIIG learning experience. Work is not the main thing in my life but it sure does take up a fair chunk of my time and energy, so to have a job I can actually say is "good" strikes me as being a real bonus. I bike to and from work six days a week (alas - damn those Saturday morning classes!)) and from that have developed a huge love of cycling - and just got a fantastic new bike to make it even more fun - so that has been enjoyable and good for my health these past few years, but especially so this year. I rode 4000km. In summer I went to the Canadian Rockies "on business" (ha - I hardly worked at all) and was blown away by the beauty and scale of the place. Plus I got to eat some good food and go hiking in frankly ridiculously beautiful scenery all for free. That was great deal. Obviously it hasn't been all sweetness and light, but for the most part it has definitely been a year for counting blessings, or lucky stars, or what have you. As for 2015, I think it'll be more of the same for the most part, barring the unforeseen disaster (and in Japan, honestly that is never far away from striking down some unsuspecting bastard), however there are things I want to do. I really must cut down on all the crap I eat after work and in the evenings - fried chicken (which is available everywhere here), chocolate, chips. If it's unhealthy, I'll probably love it. Not only that, I probably buy it 5 times a week. I exercise a lot and am generally pretty healthy, but I really should be more careful about this. If it hasn't messed with me yet, no doubt it will down the track. I aim to ride 5,000km or more in 2015. If I can get away on a couple of day-rides now and then I should be okay. Maybe I should aim for 6k? Hmm. Learn to land a plane (any one - I don't care!) consistently in BOS). Learn to skin. Learn how to make a short movie. Improve my French. Hell, I might even think about studying Japanese a bit.
Corto Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 (edited) I want stop eating crap too, (haribo, chips, chocolade) in evening hours. I will start the training for a half marthon again. (I did half marthons in 2007 and 2009) stop smoking this one cigarette a day. (evening hours too.....) I will spend more time with my two beautiful kids. I wish all of you a peacefull and happy new year 2015. Edited December 31, 2014 by Corto 1

Cybermat47 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 2014 was an interesting year for me. I've mostly gotten over the depression I got in the second half of 2013. I've been excercising more, and I'm pretty certain what one of my jobs is going to be (artillery officer in the Australian Army reserve), and as a result I've been more focused on my schoolwork. Not everything was so important, though. I've gotten interested in anime, for one thing. If you'd told me this time last year that I'd be interested in anime, I'd have said "tentacles aren't for me". Fortunately the tentacles aren't as common as I was led to believe. And if you don't know what I'm on about... good. I'm looking forward to what 2015 brings, good or bad 1
SOLIDKREATE Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 2014 was a good year for me. I decided a couple of months ago to start my own flight sim based in the Pacific centering on the RAAF. I have begun work on the P-40E-1 already. I deleted one model and started again, LOL. I hope by this June I have have a flight demo out for all of you. It's just going to be a P-40E-1, no guns or anything just a physics demo. Then if I get enough support I will launch a Kickstarter and start hiring. 1
FlatSpinMan Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Man, some fairly major/impressive things achieved or planned from you guys. Very interesting to read. Keep us updated on how they progress.
II./JG27_Rich Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) 2014 ..Crappy My dog died and one of my friends died. 2015 If nothing breaks and I can keep saving for car parts that's all I want... Edited January 5, 2015 by II./JG27_Rich
FlatSpinMan Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 That sucks to hear, Rich. I hope 2015 (are we allowed to say twenty fifteen now? I think it sounds fine?) goes well for you. Sounds like you're not having the greatest time. @SPEKTRE - not trying to be rude or anything, just curious. How on earth are you going to make a flight sim? How do you create the FMs, etc? I have some kind of notion of how the models and terrain are made, but the behind the scenes stuff is a complete mystery. Good luck with that anyway.
