taffy2jeffmorgan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Hi All. I'm about to buy myself a new graphic card [ Gigabyte 760 GTX 2GB ] I am running at the moment a Gigabyte 560 which is about 5 years old. My question is - has anyone recently upgraded their card and has the quality of BoS improved as a result ? and also does BoS have the built in ability to recognize a more powerful card and display improved graphics ? Cheers. JM.
MarcAnton Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 No you wont see improved quality (in BoS) between 560 and 760. The GTX760 is just faster and so it will provide more FPS - that gives you the opportunity to use Nvidia´s DSR (if you like that). BoS Engine looks very nice "out of the box" but you cant (at least not now) change anything within the nvidia driver to improve quality (SSAA for example etc.)
Albino Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) Hi Jeff I recently upgraded from a 560 Ti to a 970 (which I bought from PLE in Perth for $520 AUD). There is certainly a quality improvement. Not only do I now run on Ultra (whereas before I ran on low), I also consistently hit above 60 FPS which does wonders for the fluidity of the picture. It's hard to go back to playing anything at less than 60 FPS. Running on max antialising also helps with immersion by reducing all the jaggy edges. My point being, if you can stretch your budget and get the 970 it really is the best value card on the market right now. If not, I believe the 760 will give you an appreciable improvement in BOS and is worth the upgrade. You might also consider the AMD 280x with 3GB of VRAM (the 2GB on the 760 is looking a bit small these days) and better performance. Ultimately it comes down to whether you intend to play anything more demanding than BOS and the resolution you are playing at (I got the 970 for playing Star Citizen at 1920 x 1200). Out of interest, what are the specs of your overall rig? If you can wait a while, rumour is AMD will be launching new products first quarter of 2015, and there is likely a 960 from Nvidia on the way too. Regards Albino Edited December 29, 2014 by Albino

wellenbrecher Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 BoS is incredibly mild when it comes to system requirements. Just go to the Steam frontpage and chances are that 90% of those games require more power than BoS does.
Leaf Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I did the exact same upgrade -- 560 to 760. 15fps increase across the board for me.
Lusekofte Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 BOS run smoother than COD , But it is a good question. I run BOS very well with my gtx 680 card, I will not upgrade to anything else than 970 or 980
Albino Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Any modern AAA game is more demanding than BOS (which is only 32bit!). Battlefield 4, ARMA 3, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous (probably). Certainly going from a 680 to a 970 wound't have much tangible difference in BOS, however the OP is upgrading from a 560 and will certainly notice the difference with a 760.
Dakpilot Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Which model of GTX560 is it, there are big differences Ti for instance, personally I would not go from 560 to 760 not a big enough improvement in fps or the ability to up the settings by much, as said by others the rest of your computer specs are needed to get balance no good having a good card if you are very limited by CPU The GTX960 would be the next most logical upgrade, or the very least a super cheap discounted GTX770 4gb at the current time Cheers Dakpilot

Bullets Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I bought myself a GTX 770 for BOS and I can play bos on max graphics improved with Nvidea settings and still get 60fps
Dakpilot Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Best performance upgrade I can see for you is a decent cooler and OC that chip to 4.5ghz biggest FPS/perfomance limit in BoS is CPU single thread speed, and wait a little for a GTX970 bargain sale discount Cheers Dakpilot

There are some good deals (used) on Ebay and Amazon... If you could find a match with yours... Kal 1
senseispcc Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) A graphic card is part of a pc not the pc. I say this because when you try to find a good Graphic card you must understand the status of you pc as an all! A graphic card not on its own create a great pc a mother board, CPU, audio system, memory modules and ssd or hard drives are also important part of your pc. Sorry for this answer but it is reality! It is better to have a very harmonious pc than a great graphic card in a normal pc Edited December 29, 2014 by senseispcc

The 970 and 980 are. I just recently added an EVGA GTX 970 FTW to my system, very pleased with it. As far as the above, I would recommend at the least a GTX 770, coming from a 560... Albino Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Hi again Jeff. http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/196519-nvidia-will-reportedly-release-a-mid-range-maxwell-gpu-the-gtx-960-in-january Probably best to hold off until January if you can! This will upset the price/performance apple cart on release Regards Albino
361fundahl Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I'm running on two GTX680 and it is great although I can cause a stutter with fast pilot head movements.
Ala13_Kike Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Thank you gentlemen for the sound advice, my specs GPU, Geforce GTX 570 COU,Intel core [Tm] i5-2500K@3.30 GHz Current resolution, 1920x080 Driver, 347.09 OS, Windows 7 If I had this CPU, before to change the graphic card, in my case, I would try to do some overclock to this CPU. It's one Intel "K" version, this CPU can take plus mhz easily. The limit of overclock it's in your motherboard and your CPU cooler. If you haven't a good cooler you can try to do OC without Vcore increment, and win some mhz at this CPU, that I'm sure that will help you to take plus FPS. To do overclock at this CPU is very easy. My experiencie with my older graphic system, a 2xHD5850 in CFX, it's that the CPU and his speed will help to have a good experience in this simulator with framerate. Playing with this graphic system and one CPU a 3,7 ghz, implied to play in LOW preset with a maximun AA of 2x, no more. 40 fps max and the average fps was 30 apox... During 4 weeks I played with this CFX HD5850, but with one new CPU at 4,5 ghz. In this moment, without a graphic card change, the average fps increased to 55fps...playing in ULTRA and AA 4x...change only the CPU speed. Take in account this point before to change of graphic card, maybe with a little overclock you can increase your perfomance, and wait to the new graphic cards from Ati and Nvidia with better perfomance.
