IL-2 1946 Re-install

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Well after years of only playing RoF I decided it was time to dust off my old IL-2 installation, patch it up and start flying again before BoS is released. I first did an uninstall and then reinstalled from my original CD, however the game will not start! It appeared to fully load ok but when I click Run I hear the disc spin up but nothing happens. Did another uninstall and did it all again and still the same happens. Any thoughts?

Need more info.. what version and what OS?

Hi.

If you are using WIN7 you have to install a.exe file from disc. If you try to autorun or open setup.exe it will not work.

Hope this helps.

A ease way.

Put DVD in drive and cancel the autorun.

Go to My Computer, explore the DVD contend,

open the folder 1033 an run the "Autorun.exe"

Will be shown a 1946 screen with the option to install, without use of (SecureROM/Ubi) DRM (even with a.exe are black screen in some system).

1031 and 1033 folders are for install in German and French.

Yep, running Win7 64. Have tried the A.exe option and that does not work. I will try your suggestion tonight Sokol1.

Thanks guys.

I had it running on my win7x64 and now that I've thrown that machine to the kids I have it installed on win8x64 with no isses so you should succeed one way or another.

I always go the "a.exe" approach though - as admin.

Try copy DVD contend, and after run the install.

The method that I describe work fine, just test here (and a guy in another forum use the same early this month).

Sounds like a good idea! It is not my DVD drive as other old games loaded up instantly. I downloaded the SecuROM mentioned above but this seems to need the program installed first and my problem is i can't install the program.

It is certainly not your DVD drive I can assure  you.

It is a pain to get it to install, but there is a way to install it very easily. The problem is with SecurRom. I can not remember how exactly I got mine to install, seems like someone ended up PM'ing me the fix back when I did it.

Best of luck, let us know how you make out with it.

Well, alternatively to pork your OS with this Secure thing...  need follow "Voodoo recipes"... buy another DVD drive...  you can go to gog.com, pay 9.99$ for a DRM free, updated do 4.12.1 new copy of 1946.

But my simple "Voodoo recipe" work - at least for me (and somebody else). :)

Ok, Sokols idea of copying over the DVD files worked, in that the program installed onto my PC ok, but it still did not run even when I use A.exe. I was then able to run SecuROM which analysed the installation but the Step 2. "Download available online update" fails with message "The SecuRom Diagnostic Tool Server could not be reached! Please check your internet connection". Well there is nothing wrong with my connection otherwise I wouldn't be posting this!! So who know what the problem is now??

Try going into the Ubisoft / IL2 1946 folder and click on the il2fb.exe to start the game,if it works just create your own shortcut to the .exe by right clicking on it then scroll down to create shortcut.Once created you may move your new shortcut to desktop or whereever you like them.

or

It could be the protection thingy is thinking it is run from an emulation program/virtual drive...
Programs like Daemon tools etc. are not liked by protection schemes.

Try installing to a 'normal' drive - not one with a SCSI driver.
You should be able to just copy theF: /Program Files/Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/ folder and everything in it to another drive e.g. E:/Sturmovik/ and run it from there by double-clicking the il2fb.exe in E:/Sturmovik/ If you play online you might have to rename a key value in the windows registry. Do a start>run> type 'regedit.' and click OK

In regedit menu do a Edit>Find, Type 'sturmovik' in the search field, click 'Find Next'
In the right panel rightclick 'Directory' and select Modify, change the 'Value Data' to E:/Sturmovik/ (to stay with the example), click OK and close the registry editor.
Now it should work online too. Remember to make a copy of il2fb.exe and rename it il2.exe (leave it in the main game directory) so Hyperlobby client and some 3rd party utilities like MAT Manager have something to find when searching for the game. They don't search for il2fb.exe and if they don't find il2.exe they think the game is not installed.

If protection schemes only think they smell a system with disk emulators like deamon tools installed they do the weirdest things, although normally you should get an error message.

I will have a go with this. I am actually beginning to think my DVD drive might be on the blink.

Thanks again all.

You know a few years back I was doing an upgrade and was installing my OS and unbeknownst to me my OD was FUBAR .. every time I installed Windows something was missing.. and it drove me nuts for about a day until I realized what was happening..

If you are trying to install it to the default "Program Files" directory there can be problems getting it to install too.

The retail DVD version of IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 is v4.07m.
The game version may be found in the bottom left of the game startup screen.
The installation defaults to:

(32 bit systems): C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946
(64 bit systems): C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946

Installation Tip:
**Changing "Program Files" to "Games" when you are installing the sim will make the
patching process have fewer problems on machines that are using any Windows operating systems after WinXP.
Modified Filepath: C:\Games\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946

I am not saying people don't get it running in the Program FIles folder but imo it is not really worth the headache when all you have to do is create a Games folder on your C Drive to avoid the protection problems created when you use one of the "Program Files folders.

A screenshot showing us where you installed the files including the file path might help us see any problems?

Similar to this one.
