Not sure how to edit a DDS in gimp and I can't find one that is PSD. This is for JG3

Open dds file and save it as a .bmp file. Then open that bmp file in GIMP.

Anyone Know where I could get the template for the BF 109 F4 Ex Desert Paint Scheme? or can I make it myself somehow?

Just like a generic desert Luftwaffe camo? There might be some available in HSD. If not, you can always grab the Bf-109F4 template from here and create your own pretty quickly if you're just going for a simpler generic desert camo from the Afrika Korp using something like Gimp.

If you don't want to mess with all of that, I can probably throw one together pretty quick that's just got the basic markings and the white tail band.

Spoiler

In the Skies Above Stalingrad: Jagdgeschwader 3 Fights to the Last Man!

Im looking for this plane basically with the normal markings. This is the Paint scheme that JG3 Uses for career and I need a .PSD File to open in gimp so I can add kill markings/personal touches to. I'm new to skinning, so making a whole paint scheme seems hard. I was wondering if there was anyway to get it from the game files but idk.

Simply pick dds file that's close to the base line image you want- (look in HSD ( Haluter's Skin Downloader ) or in MOD file that has historically correct skins.) Then , as noted above, open the dds file of skin you want to use as baseline. Save that file as a bmp (paint) file. Open the resulting image in program of choice.(I use GIMP). Add transparent layers for additional  markings. When all markings and layers are done save your new layered file as an xcf file. Save that file for future editing. Flatten the layered image and export as a dds file. Open the dds file with DXT Image manipulator and edit alpha layer . When you "Send Alpha to Editor you will see a white screen. I use single color alpha with dark gray or very dark green with a blue value between 27 and 29. Save resulting dds file. View in game and edit alpha values as desired.

Did this skin in about 15 minutes using this procedure.

Here is original image after saving as bmp. Rendered here as jpg file.

The video is private and won't let me view it. Are there any videos of this process? This is all very helpful but I have a couple of questions. What DXT manipulator should I get and what is that all? Also, how do I convert the DDS to BMP? Do I open the DDS in GIMP and then save it as BMP? How did you delete the old markings? When I open GIMP DDS or BMP it looks like this. Thanks, I'm sorry I'm so new to this.

Video closed by You Tube as a violation!! Probably because of swastika in thumbnail.

NOTE: The image you show in your note is what you see when you open dds file with GIMP.

There's bunch of DXT manipulators out there for free download. Whichever one you install should open when you click on target baseline dds skin image. If it doesn't open automatically ,right click the file and select" Open with" ______ ( Manipulator app you have chosen to use)

When the dds image is open save it as a bmp file. Then open THAT bmp file , not the dds file, with GIMP.

Delete old markings using GIMP clone tool.

Then start adding transparent  layers for new markings.  When all layered in and lined up where you want them save that file for future editing. Flatten the layered image and export as a dds file.

There is no information that Hartman fought on a BF 109 F4 aircraft.

Also with a black tulip coloring!

If you really want to, you can draw it, but it won't be historical. pure fantasy.

I have not found any confirmation that Hartman fought on the Bf 109 F4.

His first victory was at the end of November 1942 at WWF 109 G4.

But if you want, then please, the F4 that no one has seen.
