Luger1969 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Hi everbody. I have a skin request for a Yak. It is actually on a Yak 7 but i think with the summer maps and because it is unusual it may be great. Also if anybody will do this 1 is it possible to do a guards emblem on the nose. I know skinning takes time and effort but if you can please. Much appreciated and many thanks Andre. Please consider.....http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/Yak7_White03/

216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Lots of great skins here! Here is a request for the brave: I managed to find out the Yak-1s part of 55 IAP/16 GIAP flew in 1942 before converting to the Airacobra. From this photo at least, it turns out they were from a similar series if not the same as the one we have here, as evidenced by the new cockpit. Anyone up for skinning any aircraft from that regiment? I tried to find profiles and other resources but there are only MiG-3 and P-39 profiles from what I see, while the I-16s, I-153 and Yak-1s the regiment flew didn't quite catch on. Anyhow, here are Rechkalov and Dmitri Glinka with other pilots plotting a flight:

216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 A little nothing I decided to try out just for fun, a hypothetical 16 GIAP skin based on a Pokryshkin skin Borstl_71 did for his (fabulous, by the way) campaign in the old Il-2. The inscription reads From The School Children of Mariupol - the only other aircraft I could find that has this inscription is Ivan Babak's P-39. I have not managed to contact him to confirm his source. Pokryshkin talks little of his Yak-1 experience since he was not fond of the type, and no online source has any information on how the 16 GIAP Yaks looked. It is known however that they started arriving in January 1942, and the unit continued to receive Yak-1s all the way to 1943, when it transitioned to the P-39 at the beginning of the year. Initial aircraft were second hand from other regiments, which is why I faded the stars and inscription, in the assumption that the red nose and tactical numbers were added at 16 GIAP since it was a Guards unit while the previous owners were a regular fighter regiment (the number escapes my mind now unfortunately). Still tuning the colours, the screenie is decidedly terrible and taking suggestions. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Slight changes.in colour and Alpha. First time skinning for Il-2 so feedback is appreciated. Borstl_71 confirmed that the aircraft was based on an interview where Pokryshkin described his aircraft. Bear in mind that the screenshot has a lower resolution due to me playing on low settings. If anybody is interested in either the skin or wants to give it a go based on what I've found, feel free. In this interview he described that the 16th GIAP was named to the City of Mariupol as a honorific title. Furthermore the Regiment adopted some Mariupol classes of schoolchildren at this time and they painted it on their aircrafts fuselage.

Gremlin_Gus Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) I've been playing with an unpainted Yak. From a discussion I followed about unpainted i16s I don't belive a 'plane was ever finished like this, many parts being primed before assembly. The closest to unpainted was probably primer only. Nevertheless I thouht this one might be interesting. Before releasing it (minus redundant paint chips) I thought I'd ask you guys if I got the panels right? any other feedback welcome.
