Persistent main menu, no return to game option

Brief description: Black main menu "tab" stays on screen in game on the right side. Can't get rid of it.

Detailed description, conditions: Join a multiplayer expert game. Autostart the engine. Get in the air. Open menu and go to control setup. Close/escape settings because I couldn't find sensitivity/invert option specifically for rudder, and then as usual when I am in menus hit the following sequence-> escape escape escape escape escape. Nope, black main menu still there on the right. Mouse cursor is visible and menu items are clickable but there is no really obvious "return to game" menu item. Also, head tracking via track-IR 5 stops working when the main menu is up. Have to quit the game to make it go away. I have only managed to do this in multiplayer. The behavior is as if the game does not take the command "ESC" to clear the last menu.

Settings in game are defaults except for graphics and controls. Running 1920x1080 on a 2560x1440 panel.
