Mastermariner Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Common people dont want war or killing other people. Here is what Goering thought about it in Nurnberg "Göring: Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship." Feathered_IV Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 That was a fantastic documentary. Really enjoyed it when it first aired over here. There's another great story there from another Australian who met a young woman in a club in Cairo. I won't ruin it for you, but you'll remember it for a long time.

Emgy Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Haha, excellent. Is the full docu on youtube or something? I did a quick search and couldn't find it.

Beazil Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 It's a miracle the guy didn't get knifed by the Germans out of fear for their own safety. When it started it sure looked like it was going that way. I couldn't imagine the stress these guys must have been under. Had the timing of those artillery volleys been off just a bit, this might have been a very different story. What an experience.

FlatSpinMan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Loved the account of being buzzed by a 109. That must have been so incredible to see, and it was great to here how the Aussie veteran wanted so much to meet the pilot after the war. A good clean fight, eh. 1
