Key to turn off Navigation icon?

Is there a key to turn off your plane icon in the "O" map?

"I" doesn't do it anymore.

You may have your options set to never give you that option. If you turn it on in the options, you can toggle it with "I". If you turn it off completely, it's gone.

I'm set on Expert, looks like it's on by default

You can not disable them anymore. Only in Custum Setting. Hoping for a fix here. I would really like to play on normal or expert mode without my plane showing up on the map.

Might be a server side option. Tried yesterday on an unranked server and my plane wasn't showing on the "o" map. The "radar" was still functionning around allied airfield though.

This change was asked by "full real" MP players, allo servers without "GPS".

 

But has the collateral effect effect of penalizing SP "grognards" in campaign by forcing then to see the "GPS.

Last minute info, today (24/12) update change this, now is possible toggle plane icon on full screen map with (I) key.

I actually like having the friendly and enemy ground units shown on the map when playing Expert. It would be realistic as a ground attack pilot to have this info on your map.

It seems like the keys are kinda messed up, if you press the i key to turn the plane icon off in map view it turns off the hud. You then can't press H as it doesn't work but now i turns on the hud. Hold down H and i and now H is for the hud but now the icon is back, go to map view turn icon off with i and now the bloody hud is off and H not working again.?????

 

The keys as someone said earlier seem to be interfering with each other.

HUD (H) in this game is the whole info over the screen (icons on planes/targets, text for radio messages, technochat...)

 

 

 

It seems like the keys are kinda messed up, if you press the i key to turn the plane icon off in map view it turns off the hud.

 

This what you turn ON/OFF with (I) key - together with plane Icon (GPS) on map (M or O) -  is the "Instrument panel" (HDG, Speed, Altitude, ammo counters..., or in compact form only HDG).

 

So, (I) is dependent of (H) be ON.    

 

And of course, turn ON (H) only will show the "Instrument Panel" if (I) are ON.

 

OK. Confuse.   

 

Ideally one key for each function will be better, but you know, "Less key is better" rule.

It was actually better the way it was, as now I can't seem to have labels on, and icon off in the O map view.

 

Is it too difficult to have a key for each so we could have on or off what we want?

 

I find it kinda hard to spot things in the game so like to have labels on sometimes or flash them on to get my bearings, but if i press i to get the plane icon away H no longer does anything, I don't like having the plane icon on but now you have to have it on if labels are on, before I could switch either on or off, why change it?

EDIT: Just to be clear I only want labels on screen, no technochat or instrument panel and plane icon off, now if I want the plane icon off, labels have to be off also.You could do that before this patch in normal or expert.

OK, your are telling about icons (labels) over planes (and ground targets).

 

Now (I) turn ON/OFF these icons (labels) over planes/targets (Object Markers in "Realism") besides Icon (GPS) on map (Navigation Markers in "realism").

 

If you want see icons (labels) over flying planes (or ground targets), but not (GPS)  in map, there is no way to set this in "Realism" or combining option.

 

But if you use only full screen map (O), you can:

 

Press I and O simultaneous = full screen map without (GPS) icon. Press I and O again to turn off map and turn icons (labels) over planes.

 

Or add (O)  - besides (I) - to the function (in Service) "Show/hide instrument panel, navigation and map markers".

So when press (O)  to see map are turning off "instrument panel, navigation and map markers" and dont see (GPS) icon over the map,

and when press (O) to close map are turning these things and planes icons (labels) on.

I had to read your post a couple of times. It gets a little confusing with all these O and i's, (not your post, this whole business) but thanks pal I got it now.

 

Yes I did mean labels =  icons above flying planes, sorry.

 

 

Cheers as now I mapped (O) as well as (I) to Show/hide instrument panel, navigation and map markers so now when flying with labels on and press (O) i see the map without the GPS icon there, so at least I am getting somewhere.

 

Thanks pal, though why it has to be this confusing is beyond me, I am sure there could have been a simpler way.

Thank you for your explanations re- the icon/ label issue, I was wondering if you know how to get rid of the info bar at the bottom of the screen, or even just to have the cumpass showing instead of the whole thing?

 

I like to fly just with plane labels on and no GPS, no technochat or info bar but now if I have labels on I also have the info bar on.

 

I do in the options under flight interface have it hidden, but it doesn't seem to work as it always appears in it's whole form, also every time I start the game it reverts to compact so I have to switch to hidden every time I start but it doesn't do any thing in the campaign at least, in QMB it does go minimal.

 

Just to clarify, just plane labels on while I am flying and nothing else, is this possible do you know?

 

Any help would be most appreciated as this is one of my few gripes with this game, thanks.

In Settings > Basic Options set the "Instrument Panel" = Compact. This will show only the compass (analog/digital)/waypoint indicator.

 

Your "HUD" will end like this:

With HUD on the text box for radio/command messages is always on. This box is the "HUD" minimal information.

 

If you don't want see "GPS" at all on map - even if became "lost" - try turn of "Navigation Markers" off in Realism>Gameplay.

 

BTW - These settings are tested on Single Missions/QM - I don't know in Campaign  - I don't play.

As I feared this is only available in QM or single missions and not in the campaign, the info bar shows everything and cannot re-size to just show the compass or even to get rid of it altogether.

 

Why they do not have a button to switch these things on or off separately god knows, thanks anyway buddy.

Is because you are using EXPERT mode - that allow compass (I), text for messages, and "technochat" (Ingame messages) in campaign,

but him use NORMAL mode (to be able to see "labels" on planes/targets).
