How about makers sort and name his skins for download:

 

Historic for the period/scenery

Historic, but other war period and/or scenery

Fictional (as - il-2 (original) tradition - "skate skins).  :lol:

 

I agree... However, I was told by another user in the "Custom Skins" subforum that we should just use our eyes to figure it out when I made the suggestion...

 

Personally, I don't think that organizing these things hurts anybody and would probably provide better exposure for "skate skins" than having everything melded together...

 

Anybody seen that "Red Baron A-3" over in the Custom Skins subforum..? That thing is a work of art.  :good:

I found one annoying thing, The game use it's own alpha channel and ignore the player created DDS skin's alpha channel. that makes me cannot fix the bug that G2 cockpit's frame shuld not has riverts like F4's

 I got carried away. I noticed it's an A4 only after I did the new eagle head design. :lol: May as well finish it and post it :biggrin: .

 

the markings in the screenshot have balkenkreuz with the black outline. The uploaded skins have the correct markings.

 

Get them in the skins download forum.

It is getting to be a little like a walk down memory lane in the BoS skinning world with names I fondly remember from the massive IL-2 skinning community :)

 

Really looking forward to what will develop in the next year :cool:

Yes the photo... When I look at this.. at all this.. the history and such.. I try to remove the politics and try to just look at the men involved.  An interesting read for me was "I Flew for the Fuhrer" by Heinz Knoke ...

It would be a nice thing to keep interest up whilst we wait for the sim to flesh out more.

Someone said they contacted M4T to host skins. Anyone know if there has been a reply (hopefully affirmative?)

that was me and I have not heard from them yet I assume it is because of holidays

I had thoughts along the same lines - but not in an official skin pack , but in an official patch itself, with the files in the regular data Archives/Bin/Cab files.

 

My Goal would be to force the Display of the skins online like the default ones are forced.

The Goal number would be +5 skin for every Plane type in the first of such upgrades.

My "motivation" would be that the skins were sort of "free content" made by the users for inclusion in the official game via a thread wheer all skins can be submitted.

and down the line, every Month there can be +5 skins made available for the "weekly friday updates"

- all players from all language communities get the same skins (skins spread faster)

- all players can use these skins. if they do not, they still see the other people use them (which is the point, especially in hardcoreX2, where plane recognition is crucial)

- squads can, via this way, force everyone to see their skins and recognize them [no penises, no titties... and such] - if they paint the planes red on white Stalingrad it is their own fault :P

- skins are encoded and checked for quality and alpha tampering beforehand. (community can do that by setting criteria)

 

There surely will be problems, like certain people using squad skins, even though they are not a member...

we got to think this through.

skins must be used and distributed - that's what we make them for.
i am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so i gather other people must have the exact same thoughts, and implement them, surely.

the old was one simple but could be problematic, whenever you logged into a server the skin some one was using would DL to you and you would end up with this huge cache file of skins,

 

I think as you mentioned a central repository with an upload link attached to this forum  would be ideal and then have the laucher amended to check said repository for new entry;s just like it looks for game updates would streamline the process.

simmers paintshop .com is where i get my stuff - and then a lot of elbow grease to adjust.

 

the old one was good, but i hear people say that the system can not work - 4 to 5 MB(mips included) x 64 players - lagfest guaranteed.

i didnt mind the cache much - always "interesting" stuff in there.... (mostly WTF material)

The grey surfaces are highly reflective and supposed to be bare metal. The shark face was the most time consuming part of the job as it had to be split into multiple parts.

If you want others to see your skin online,you have to share it,so they can download it to their game skin folder.
