3instein Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I remember that in ROF you had the raindrops on the goggles, Don't remember if you could actually see the rain in 3rd person view though. Does anyone know if there has been any info on if this will ever come to this game, I just think it would be kinda cool flying through a rain storm seeing the drops on my windshield, I hope this will come one day. Mick.
No601_Prangster Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) Rain drops on your goggles in RoF was a full screen post rendered effect and it's not possible to use the same technique on a canopy in 3D. I suppose it would be possible to create rain drops using a texture map in the same way as the oil effect but it would need a smooth animation (lots of maps) to make it work. -TBC-AeroAce Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I guess it could be done as we have the oil effect. Not sure if water would be sticking around at 550kmh though
Finkeren Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I guess it could be done as we have the oil effect. Not sure if water would be sticking around at 550kmh though The difference is, that the oil effect isn't animated. It's just a handful of texture layers slowly becoming more opague. Rendering the effects of water running over the canopy would require fully animated textures to look realistic. And these textures would need normal mapping to properly reflect sunlight etc. All in all it's much much more demanding to model than som oil on the windscreen slowly appearing. 1

Jaeger55 Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 I can't fly straight as it is and you guys want to add another layer of difficulty?
Dutch Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Rise of Flight is situated in Western Europe. It could be rain, it could be sleet, it could be snow, it could be hail. It could also be very warm in February here. I remember going for a ride with the blokes down to Matlock Bath in Feb. and it was so warm, it was real tee-shirt weather, and this girl said to me 'I like your bike' and...well....never mind. Stalingrad is in Russia. Where it is always winter. Apparently.
IIN8II Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Check out the weather effects on the windshield here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BlQ8uyYerA
