FlyingNutcase Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Hi Folks, In the original IL2 and in the little flying of CLoD that I did, I would usually choose the 109 as my default ride and also spent a bit of time in the Ju-87G for a bit of ground pounding. Now though, with the imminent approach of BOS, I'm not really being attracted to the 109 or even the German side in general. I can see myself choosing ground pounding as my primary style, with the IL2. This is a surprising development for me and feels kind of strange actually - no idea why. There are plenty of guys hanging out for "their" 190 etc. Do any of you think BOS will change your flying style, allegiance or aircraft?
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 No, ive been waiting too long for my 109F4.
Original_Uwe Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 No, ive been waiting too long for my 109F4. For freaking real! +1. Honestly I would be happy if they just released this as a 109 simulator, I need nothing else.
dkoor Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I really never had a specific fav ride. I for sure favourited some like 109, P-38, & few others, perhaps because I put best performance in that plane, or was it maybe coolness factor or something else - I don't know. But I never really became a camp guy.
Crow Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I never picked sides in simulators. I have no interest in role playing as a particular side or squadron. I think it's because I don't romanticize the idea of warfare. Once you get to a certain level of skill, it's much more interesting to choose the weaker team on a given map and see if you can win. It's no longer interesting to continually pound the faces of new players by picking the best aircraft on each map. A well-known personality on the old Ubizoo boards used to say, "I fly the worst planes in the game and I don't have that problem," when players would whine about their under-modeled aircraft or weaponry. I take that as a personal challenge. I want to be able to say that I can fly ANY aircraft in the game and be successful, not just a handful of the best aircraft. I attribute it to the unchecked ego of a professional pilot ("there ain't nothin' with wings I can't fly"). 2
=LD=Hethwill Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Give me my ol'faithful hawk and i'll try to take it up at least once per gaming session. Other than that is just about the mission. And knowing too few will take the underdog planes - 110's, laggs - I'll gladly fly them.
Volkoff Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 As of late, my usual ride has been an Albatros DVa or a Halberstadt D.II. In IL2 BOS, as a member of the 69 GIAP, I anticipate that I will first train on the LaGG-3, then spend most of my first year simming the LaGG-3, the Yak-1, and the La-5, with most of my weekend sim time spent using the Yak-1. MJ
HansHansen Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Crow perfectly summarizes my opinion. It is much more humiliating to beat someone who flies a superior aircraft. Anyone can get some kills with the La-7 in IL-2, but where is the challenge? Where is the fun? 2
LLv44_Mprhead Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) My usual rides used to be spitfire mk.IX and P-51/Mustang mk.III, so I guess it's time for a change... I have also been thinking about flying (mostly) blue this time. Edited September 18, 2013 by mprhead
leitmotiv Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 he he always nice to fly underdog, nothing is expected from you and if you get shoot down, heck i had bad airplane, but with better airplane if you get shoot down then you know you were doing something wrong and thats not nice to know always, underdog is safe bet i know ill fly Yak-1 and Fw-190 most of the time 1
JG4Helofly Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 The Focke Wulf has been my fav plane since Forgotten Battles. The high speed boom and zoom fighting is my style. I am not much of a stall fighter. So, on df server, it will be the 190. 1
SCG_Neun Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 No, ive been waiting too long for my 109F4. +1
Tektolnes Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I've nearly always flown red so time for a change. For bombers I'll be sticking with the Pe-2 though.
Rjel Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I'll probably fly the 109s mostly but I must admit the LaGG and Yak are going to get some stick time too. I never could fly either well in IL-2. I'm sure I won't fly them any better in the new game.
Feathered_IV Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 The I-153 and I-16 were always my first choice in the original series. This time around it will be the Il-2 and Pe-2 in their absence.
BMW801 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 When IL2 FB and the add ons were new, I would get stuck on just a few aircraft in a given theater. RoF helped me with the gradual realease of aircraft. I really branched out and wanted to fly them all. The aircraft in BoS are so detailed that I think I will be more likely to fly everything available. It will also make me more likely to fly more ground support missions because the ground units look so detailed in what has been released so far. With the original IL2 titles I mainly just flew fighters.
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 S! Will fly them all or it gets boring. No more "serious" sticking to a single plane etc. but enjoying the sim for what it provides: a WW2 flight sim.
Jaws2002 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 When the IAR-81 is released, I'll fly only that for two weeks. I'll bomb that tractor factory in Stalingrad until there's only a big hole left on the map. I doubt too many red pilots will complain why I don't fly the 109F4 or FW190.
ShamrockOneFive Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 No change for me... my philosophy is to fly all planes as much as possible and when I'm using one too much then I switch to another.
1CGS LukeFF Posted September 19, 2013 1CGS Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) I've nearly always flown red so time for a change. There's no such thing as "red" or "blue" being used to define the Allied or Axis side with the engine being used for the game. It's time to drop that outdated term. Edited September 19, 2013 by LukeFF
71st_AH_Hooves Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I always liked playing as the underdog. It just seems to add more satisfaction to the killz. But then again I end up getting shot up more. Ill most liley flynmore russian than german. But I'm determined to branch out tbis time! 1
Volkoff Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) As a multiplayer specialist, it only makes sense for me to spend some time using all of the rides. Even though I simfly for a VVS squad, I will certainly simfly and study all of the Axis rides, so I may better understand what I am up against in multiplayer and so I can take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy playing with all of the wonderful rides created by the IL2 BOS Team. Skoshi_Tiger Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) I recon even if you are flying your usual bird it will still seem like flying a whole new plane. Hopefully it will have a more accurate flight model, physics engine and graphics. Don't expect it to handle like older sims and hopefully more realistic tactics will need to be applied! Cheers! Edited September 19, 2013 by Skoshi_Tiger
JtD Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) In Il-2, I used to fly all sorts of planes (except for the 1946 fantasy stuff). Now I spend 95% of my time in something like 50 of my favourite types, and I really can't imagine me not trying out the ten aircraft in BoS. I love variety. Edited September 19, 2013 by JtD 1
theOden Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 LaGG-3 first a few weeks and then Pe-2 a few weeks and then IL-2 a few and then Yak-1 and last La-5 with reservation for whatever planes are available on early R. Probably a few short tests in Luftwaffe crates too. should keep me busy some half year before I start all over again.
J4SCrisZeri Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I'll give a try to every bird of course, to see the beauty and the quality of 1c's work. But usually I stick to a few favourites. No spitfires here, so I guess I'll fly Stukas, 109s and maybe LaGGs a lot
BMA_West Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) Funny how nobody mentions even on the side the IL-2 AM-38, when we'll get it with the rear gunner from starters and it is the bigger denominator of the sim. The while some want to spend some time in Stuka Ju 87? Just a general observation, besides the work horse transporter/bomber He 111 does not surface to much here either ... Never the less I am sure a fair number of you will try them out mayby linger for a while, don't you now? This goes of course for all who states the will try them ALL, like I intend for sure. Hé, those 109 and 190 will need some targets, won't they? Also seems like a real good idée to have some rear just gunners along for those occasions Edited September 19, 2013 by West
Zmaj76 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) Looks like nobody flew SEOWs in IL2 46 (and I know its not true)....there you fly for both sides depending on the campaign your squadron participate....interesting.... Edited September 19, 2013 by Tvrdi
fergal69 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I quite like flying the HE111 or JU87 in a qmb being attacked by half a dozen fighters for the challange of surviving & defending the aircraft. Also do this on the allied side as well. After enjoying flying 109 & especially the 110, I've taken to flying the 190.
Panzerlang Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Assuming there will be any servers running realistic missions I'll be mostly flying the He111 and doing my best to level the city. Fighters are too stressful these days.
II./JG27_Rich Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) What's that tan thing on the left? Edited September 19, 2013 by II./JG27Richie
Bearcat Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 My usual ride is not in the sim yet so I will be flying something new.
=LD=Scronce Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Add your all time favourite plane in here too! I'd have to say Spitfire mk IX, I've seen two spitfires flying irl and the engine noise tips it over the 109s for me ^^.
Matt Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 My favorite plane is basically the 109. But in BoS MP, it think I'll have to fly soviet planes most of the time, so I guess I will fly Yak-1 and La-5 a lot. The Pe-2 also looks very interesting. I'll leave the 109 for SP.
Allons Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Well, as long as we don´t really know what to expect i cant give an answer. Ju87, He111, and then fighters as Jabos will be my favorite choice as long a we dont have a Bf110. Best, Allons!

Why not sim fly your favorite plane in multiplayer? I can understand if you want to balance a very lopsided team, but it would be a shame not to play with your favorite ride in multiplayer, Matt.
