Cognac Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Looking through the floor window in a Stuka, I really have problems spotting targets, notably arty pieces and bridges. I want to work on my dive bombing, but even things like supply dumps are pretty tough to pick out in built up areas. I usually end up just overflying the area and missing it completely. Anyone want to share some tips?
Jade_Monkey Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I try to use any geographical references from the map (if available). Look if there are any distinct things near the arty that can help you pinpoint the location such as a bend of the river, a patch of trees, a nearby town. Otherwise I agree that it's really hard to see things from up high.
SAG Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 yes, but Draw distance for buildings is very small, makes level bombing from high altitud harder than it should be 1
Comes Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I am currently playing the campaign with the He-111. In the artillery bombing mission, I never managed to spot the target from far away, so that I can line up my plane for the bomb run. And then there are the "Bomb supply dump" Missions. What do these supply Dumps look like? I was not able to recognize them. Would be cool if someone could post a screenshot. The ones that I can do by now are the bridges and the railway stations.
Dakpilot Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 In the map on the mission description screen you can zoom right in to see where the 'ammo dump' target area is in the built up area The ammo dump is the lighter grey 'rectangle' under the 'action point target' the building in game are identifiably different from the other buildings when divebombing in say a JU-87 even at altitude, with a bit of careful study you should have an idea where the target is in relation to the rest of the town/city Cheers Dakpilot
Roo5ter Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Keep the bomb door closed in the Stuka, open the canopy and stick your head out. Dont fly directly at the target, fly at an offset of a good few hundred meters but on the same heading that way you can see it.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Lower your gamma and/or install SweetFX as well it's much easier to spot stuff, that and zoom in a lot when scanning.
LAL_Luny Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) +1 Emil also agree with Rooster fly slighly out of path so you can see the target on the side its easier in Stuka For level bombing at high altitudes (He111), use the bomber visor and set it to view mode, then use the knob to set it to see "further", its much more precise than in cockpit view Edited April 10, 2015 by UF_Luny

Finkeren Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 The window in the bottom of the Stuka was never really designed for 'spotting' anything. Identifying and choosing targets was done long before they ever became visible through that little hole in the floor. It was used to determine the correct moment to initiate the dive, that's all. But I do agree: As relatively good BoS is at redering aircraft to facilitate realistic spotting, as unnecessarilly hard it is to spot ground objects from any kind of altitude.
