1./ZG1_ElHadji Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) Comrades! Is it a coincidence or do you catch fire more easily in the last chapter of the campaign? During the first chapters I have got hit quite a few times but only went down in a blaze perhaps 2-3 times with my Lagg-3 (I have crashed with engine failures, missing wings, etc, etc but not from fires). During my last 4-5 missions, flying the last chapter, it seems as if the AI bombers (I have been flying intercept missions) set me ablaze with a single shot every time. The Stukas a worst! If I'm going up against them I can almost open up a pack of MRI Marshmallows right away. Question is if this is a gameplay mechanic, making the last missions more difficult or is it pure coincidence? I doubt my flying has become worse. The AI gunners have definatly improved though... Sincerly. Comrade Drenchky Inflameovich Gazolinsky (KIA) Edited December 20, 2014 by -=XBOYZ=-ElHadji
Willy__ Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 The enemies get smarter and more experienced as you get through the campaign, but you not become more flamable, there is no change on FM or DM between chapters iirc.
SharpeXB Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I at Level 8 haven't noticed the AI or AA being more effective as I advance in level. I think AA has only got me twice and I'm about halfway through all the unlocks. So far the trees have been more dangerous... :-/
BraveSirRobin Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I noticed no difference in difficulty as I progressed through the levels.
Willy__ Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Oh well, it must be me then, but I really thought the enemies get better as you progress the chapters, maybe one dev can enlighten us ?

That's when the AA becomes really dangerous.

Juri_JS Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Haven't noticed... Attack an airfield and you will notice.
ST_ami7b5 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) That's my favourite mission ('cause you can find it - the target - easily even when playing full real). I make a fast sweeping attack and bomb those four parked planes - mission accomplished Then I run away fast (highest continuos power possible) flying low, manouvering and avoiding enemy airfields and AA units on my way home. Edit: I also like attacking trains for the same reason - good target visibility withouth icons (full real). I make one bombing run from behind, trying to destroy AA wagoons, and then attacking the locomotive with high caliber guns from a side. For me the train's AA is more dangerous (if you don't manage to destroy it in the first pass) than that on airfields. Edited December 20, 2014 by ST_ami7b5
1./ZG1_ElHadji Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 I really hope it is a coincidence and not a feature... Gameplay mechanics like this does not belong in simulators. If anything, German defenses and possibility to fight back should be weaker as the campaign progress and not stronger.

A combat flight sim should try to be as historical as possible. Edited December 20, 2014 by ST_ami7b5
SharpeXB Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Keep the AA on your 3:00 or 9:00 and when you see tracers fly, pitch your plane down or up to dodge them. Now if only the trees would stop jumping up to hit my plane...
ST_ami7b5 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) Just made airfield attack as described in my post above with this result: One sweep attack, bombing parked planes and run away... Edited December 20, 2014 by ST_ami7b5

If anything, German defenses and possibility to fight back should be weaker as the campaign progress and not stronger. I think the missions do become more challenging for both sides as you go up "the ranks". You get fewer wingmen. The bombers (on intercept missions) get more escorts, etc. It's not that any weapon receives a "boost", it's just that the odds become a bit more difficult in terms of the opposition you meet, I think. I don't think there's anything wrong with this. I honestly think that the "Campaign" (or "extended/enriched QMB" mechanism) is partially (or mostly) designed to "ease" new pilots into the game. There are four very simple mandatory missions - three with a Lagg, I think and one with a 109? After that the first chapter opens up with pretty straightforward go-there-do-that stuff. Many of these really can be done on autopilot because the AI wingmen will probably take care of the objectives. It's harder later on, when there are no wingmen, I guess. But the thing is, this mechanism seems to me to aimed at newcomers to encourage them to learn and get better. However, maybe they're also useful for people such as myself who always need more practice in the game and are hoping to "hone" their skills. For this, the campaign is fine: a sandbox in which people can practice easily and in a fun way, and - when you get one of the silly medals, a real sense of achievement. I really don't think the whole campaign idea is wrong in itself. In fact I applaud the devs for trying something new to attract new players into the "non-arcade cfs" genre. (Yes, I think it's a mistake to make it mandatory for everyone. But hey, they probably thought... WOW! Global Stats! Steam-style Achievements! Medals! Yaaay! What's not to like?... If they're wrong, they're wrong, but people shouldn't (in my humbles) get all... vitriolic on their asses (!) for them trying some thing new, for them trying to make an effort!
