Spawning method + mission start command + AI only etc

this request is very similar to the co-op argument. I don't want to open old wounds but I'll set out why I personally like the old IL2 co-op system.

 

For me, I liked the old co-op system because the mission could run as I, as a mission builder, wanted it to.  I knew that I could set all AI aircraft with certain waypoints, and if everyone spawned in at the same time on the runway that they could be in the action zone at roughly a certain time.  With the DF spawn method in CloD you spawn, taxi, form up on the runway and then take off.  With taxiing accidents and so on this adds uncertainty over the timing and so a mission may not work.  With the Banks script (very clever imho) this is for me another layer between useability and enjoyment i.e. it made CloD more playable but less enjoyable because it was hassle.  Also, all pilots can see the friendly aircraft that are in game, or can see the enemy aircraft if they switch flag.

 

I think that unless we are fortunate the old take a slot, press fly then the host presses fly method may be dead.  I quite like the taxiing etc method too so I am not so sad about it.  Tohat I would really like to see is this:

 

1.  Designated spawn points on the runway.  At the start of a mission I could start in position 1  and my section pilots know to take spawn positions 2 and 3.  And so on until all pilots are in their necessary spawn pposition.  If a position is taken the game bumps the pilot down one position.

 

2.  Possibly, if the above cannot be used, give the host a command to use to start all AI aircraft on their pre-programmed paths.  So, everyone spawns in a hanger or wherever, taxis to the runway and forms up.  Host hits a "Go" button and the mission starts.

 

3.  Make it so that enemy aircraft are AI only, so cannot be viewed in a start up screen.

 

 

One thing that has just struck me forcefully is that I have fallen into the trap many of us do, which is to assume BoS will be like CloD.  It won't be of course.  I flew in a RoF mission on Monday, chose my slot then hit ready.  I was in Pup #1 and started on the right hand side of Pups #2, 3 and 4.  I couldn't see any enemy or AI in the selection screen.  If someone can confirm that this method will be used in BoS then I'll be as happy as I can be!
